Standard #5 Innovative Applications of Content

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use different perspectives to
engage learners in critical/ creative thinking and collaborative problem solving related to
authentic local and global issues.

Standard in my own words


Understanding how to encourage students to make connections with what they’re
learning in class and what is going on around the world.

Description of Artifact
During my teacher work sample I used iCivics in a variety of ways. One of the ways that
I used iCivics was to teach my students about the executive branch. This gave students a
hands on experience playing as the President of the United States.

Indicators
5 (l) Understands how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and
effectively achieving specific learning goals.

Rationale
I met this standard 5 (l) because I was able to use digital tools that were both interactive
and fun for students. Students got to play the part of being president through a
simulation game that gave them the opportunity to make important decisions just like the
President would.
