Final Reflection

Before this class I knew how to write research papers even though I’m not a fan of them
but that was pretty much it. To be honest I had heard of a memo before but I didn’t even know its
purpose let alone how to write one. The knowledge I have gained in this course will undoubtedly
be one of the most useful information I will use now and in my future. I had always seen my
managers creating formal and informal emails and would spend long periods of time just writing
one and then revising it for even longer. Now I understand the time and effort it takes to express
your experience, views, or proposals in a formal or informal text.

The individual assignments I was able to do in this course have helped me learn how to
create letters and memos in a professional environment. They allowed me to create multiple
types of documents in an environment I was unfamiliar with. I already knew how to write
research papers so the individual assignments had not improved my research. It has however
improved my critical thinking and critical reflection. It has allowed me to think as both parties in
some situations and find a resolution. Doing these assignments have also allowed me to learn
about inquiries and agreements. The group projects introduced me to something I have never
done before which was working on a single written project as a collective. My group and I were
able to combine ideas and make very creative pieces. By being able to build off of one another
we came up with things I know I could not have done alone. This exposure allowed me to realize
that in a real workplace often you are not alone and work together in teams especially in the
major I am in. The textbook exercises were to be honest very boring I did not enjoy doing them
although they were very informative and taught me things such as being able to edit and revise
other people documents.

In the end I very much enjoyed this course and I am glad I was able to take it. I’ve
learned so much over the semester and I didn’t even realize it until I began finishing up the
eportfolio.
