Annotated Bibliography
1. Byu, Theresa Kasallis. “Relationships Big Source of Stress for College Students.” Daily
Universe, The (Brigham Young University) (UT), 2006.
a. (Byu)
b. The purpose of this source is to inform the audience about the stress college
students are under and how this affects these young adults. This article can be
used to educate people on both the positive and negative effects of stress. One
limitation of this source is that it was published in 2006 so it could be deemed
invalid due to its age. One strength of the article is that it provides a opposing
argument view which can help to solidify a point.
c. I will most likely use this source because it offers a lot of direct conversations
from college students which can be helpful when getting their point of view.
d. I believe that this source is credible because Brigham Young University is a well
established research university. They have been ranked the number 1 school for
psychology faculty research production which is evidence of their validity.
2. Kadison, Richard, and Theresa Foy. DiGeronimo. College of the Overwhelmed: the
Campus Mental Health Crisis and What We Must Do about It. Jossey-Bass, 2005.
a. (Kadison)
b. The purpose of this source is to not only inform but also offer helpful techniques
and tips for overcoming the stress of college. This source can be used by
researchers as useful viewpoints on a serious topic and it can also be used by
college students to either learn more about this topic or get general advice and
help for themselves. One limitation of this source is that it focuses on the
psychological aspect a lot which is not something that we chose to consistently
cover throughout the presentation. One strength of this source is that the personal
stories and techniques cover many different areas and unique situations which can
be helpful in covering the entirety of a topic.
c. This source will be used in our presentation because it provides information on
the mental health side of college stress which is a specific topic discussed in our
slideshow.
d. The authors of this source prove their credibility by being well versed in the
topics covered in this book. The main author Richard Kadison is the Chief of
Mental Health Services at Harvard University. The book also consistently uses
facts to support the personal stories provided in the text.
3. Bhujade, Vijay Mahadeorao. "Depression, Anxiety and Academic Stress among College

a. (Bhujade)
b. The purpose of this source is to inform the audience about the emotional and
psychological problems college students are dealing with even though there is so
much money invested into education every year. The use of this source can be to
raise awareness about the problems such as depression and anxiety on college
campuses. One limitation of this source is that it is not very easily accessible
which can make it more difficult than necessary to read through this article. A
strength for this source is that it offers preventive measures and new ideas for
college campuses when dealing with these issues.
c. This source will be used in our presentation when discussing the negative effects
of the general stressors placed on college students. It can be helpful to show how
there are constantly professionals brainstorming ideas for improving these issues.
d. This source is credible because it was published by a validated Department of
Psychology and it was published in a journal about health and well being.
4. Troubled Teen Help. “Peer Pressure.” Troubled Teen Help, 21 Nov. 2013,
www.familyfirstaid.org/issues/peer-pressure/.
a. (Troubled Teen Help)
b. The main purpose of this source is to provide statistics and methods of handling
peer pressure in teens. The tips are aimed towards parents dealing with this in
their teenagers. This source can be used to help parents figure out how to direct
their teen away from the stress of peer pressure and encourage them down a
different path. One limitation of this source for our topic is that the statistics
stated in the article really only apply to adolescents when we are covering the
upper teen years to adulthood. One strength of this source is that some of the tips
provided for the parents can be helpful if you have a peer who is struggling with
peer pressure.
c. This source will not be used in our presentation because it pertains to teenagers
and our topic is covering college/student life. The advice given in the article is
directed towards parents which also does not apply to our topic for this project
because parents are not really a huge part of a college students lives which is an
additional stressor.
d. This source is credible because it was written by an organization that is
experienced in dealing with troubled teens and the problems the teen and their
family members face during these times.

friends and family. This source can be used for religious people who are seeking
tips on becoming better at balancing their daily requirements. One limitation of
this source is that it does focus on some scripture and more religious advice which
can seem bias when presenting a project. One strength for this source is that it
does provide insight into some topics not covered in our other sources such as
time management.
c. Although the image is helpful in giving a visual representation, the text of the
article did not really apply to our topic. Because if this we did not use the
information provided on this site just the image they provided.
d. This source is credible because the source itself is typed in a sermon format and
the author is someone from a religious group.

b. The purpose of this source is to provide statistics and collected data about the
rising costs of college tuition and expenses over the years. This source can be
used to show how the issues discussed in our presentation are still prevalent and
in fact progressing. One limitation of this source is that there is not a lot of text
paired with the statistical charts. Because of this, you can only gain information
based off of the numbers provided. One strength of this source is that it provides
data over a large range of years so the data that is collected can be deemed valid.
c. This source will be used in our presentation to provide a different way of viewing
the information we are presenting. Since a lot of our information will be based off
personal stories and articles, having statistics to support these can help the
audience to be more comprehensive of our topic.

b. The purpose of this source is to provide an interview about a horrific event
dealing with college hazing. This source can be used to educate any person on the
dangers of hazing and how it is not something to be taken lightly or pushed under
the rug. One limitation of this source is that it mainly focuses on this specific
story that is discussed in the interview which can limit the amount of information

that can be gathered from this source. One strength of this source is that reading a
source in interview form can be helpful in understanding the content better since
it is typed in a more informal manner.
c. This source will be used in the presentation because it provides information on
college hazing that can be used to tell a story or relate to other college campuses.
It is also helpful in showing the severity of college hazing and that it is still a
growing and prevalent problem.

eem/.
a. (UCF Sociology)
b. The purpose of this source is to analyze how different parenting styles and
techniques can affect a young adult who is transitioning into college. This source
can be used to provide information about how even when parents are no longer a
daily presence they can still control every aspect of that child's life which causes a
stressful cycle. One limitation of this source is that it mostly discusses
recommendations for college campuses and parents on improving this problem. A
strength for this source is that it looks into an aspect of college stress that many
people can overlook when discussing common college stressors.
c. This source will most likely be used in our presentation since it offers a unique
viewpoint paired with a unique topic. I believe that by incorporating this specific
topic it can help our audience to possibly relate to our presentation.
d. This source is credible because it is written and published by a university
sociology department.
9. Stupart, Yvette. “How Stress Affects College Students' Academic Performance.”

owlcation.com/academia/College-Life-The-Effects-of-Stress-on-Academic-Performance.
a. (Stupart)
b. The purpose of this source is to discuss how the stress that college students
experience can harm their academic performance. This source can be used to help
students figure out if they are experiencing academic problems due to stressors.
One limitation of this source is that it is not very long in length which limits the
amount of information that can be used. One strength of this article is that it offers
a list of symptoms and a quiz for someone to take to see how they are dealing
with this stress.

c. This source will be used in our presentation to provide a more medical viewpoint
of stress effects. Since it discusses the physical harms and symptoms of stress it

associated with stress in college students. This source can be used to help college
students who are experiencing similar problems find help through their school

the counseling system it also denotes it by saying there could be major
improvements. One strength for this source is that it has extensive statistical data
to support their claims and information.
c. This source will be used in our presentation because it can provide a helpful
image in the form of a chart showing how these counseling services are used
under different circumstances.
d. This source is credible because it published by the American Psychological
Association which is a well educated platform for discussions on topics like these.
