The physical elements of my character are goddess like beauty, trusting, insecure, superhuman

strength as well as inner strength, height, and the ability to sense impending doom. She will endure

hardship and not fight for herself unless provoked. Rhys is kind She is not a god; however, she is not

all human. She is half- human and half-vampire. Her name is Rhys, and she has longed to know

what happened to her parents. She is an orphaned girl raised by her mother’s sister. She never feels

as if she belongs or have a place to call home. Her motivation is to seek answers about the death of

her mother and discover why her father was not in her life. Her aunt will not share any details except

to say her mother died when she was very young. After the death of her mother, Rhys’ only living

relative is her powerful aunt. Rhys’ will follow the Hero’s journey, and she meets various characters

on her to way to self- discovery and finding peace.

One day Rhys decided to take a shortcut through the woods. She discovered a man struggling

for his life with a wolf. Rhys was overcome with rage and rushed to help the elderly man; with her

bare hands, she grabbed the wolf and threw him on his back. The urge to taste the wolf’s blood filled

her and she bite into his neck. Rhys began to feel the life force drain from the animal and a wave of

satisfaction filled her. The man watched Rhys rise and turn to him. He showed no fear and said

“I’ve been expecting you, the one they call the Glog.” The glog is a vampire slayer from Bulgaria

and uses traditional tools to destroy the vampire, such as a wooden stake made of black

HAWTHORN wood that he carves himself. (Bane 68)

I made the choices for my character because I have always been a fan of vampire mythology. It

was great watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a teen. I would image her character a differently and

in various scenarios. I was mindful to include elements of the Hero’s journey my story. The story

includes a mysterious older man who will guide her and be her supernatural guide. The aunt that

dislikes her for reasons unknown to Rhys and forces her to leave her surroundings..

Based on the Encyclopedia of vampire mythology, the glog is a male vampire slayer. The myth

states the vampire who is said to have fathered the child is usually the deceased husband of the

child’s mother. Because the child’s parents would have otherwise been married if not for the fact that

the father was undead, the child is not considered to be illegitimate and suffers from no social

stigma. There are no female glogve. (Bane 68) My goal is to create a hero who happens to be a

female and place her on the Hero’s journey. Someone who is trusting, innocent but is able to

discover who she really is and her place in the world.
