DAILY PLAN
Lesson Title: Self Portraits/ String Painting Grade Level: 4

S & S Statements: I am teaching this to give students a different and spontaneous way to paint.
Students may already know about painting, but they may think they are
limited to paint brushes. You could use anything you want to paint, and I
want students to know they are not limited.

Concepts and Skills student will be able to use Repetition, pattern, unity in their painting.

Vocabulary: Repetition, pattern, and unity

Purpose of Lesson (Overall Lesson Objective): Students could learn how to be more spontaneous
when painting. The self portrait is an add on to help them visualize themselves while being introduced
to a new way of painting.

Objectives: 1. Create a drawing that represents themselves


2.Create a painting based on what they learned about repetition, pattern, and unity

Assessment Criteria:
Students must be able to fully understand repetition, pattern, and unity. Students must also be able to
create a self-portrait that represent themselves.

Teaching Resources Needed to Support the Lesson:

Art Lab book, white board, and example art.

Art Materials Necessary for the


Lesson:
White/ Colored construction paper, strings, tempera, paper plates, craft sticks, newspaper, scissors,
markers, pencils, and smocks (if needed)

The problems I had was the confusion of the lesson. I didn’t think to give a presentation or a
demonstration of what we would be doing in the classroom. For the
second group of students I will rearrange the entire lesson by
allowing them to paint with strings first then having as much time as
they can to work on their self portraits instead of taking all the time
to finish the portraits and not understanding what they were going to
do with the paint.
