“We're always going to argue about abortion. It's a hard choice and it's controversial,
and that's why I'm pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices.” Hillary
Clinton(Clinton). Abortion throughout the years has been one of the most controversial topics
out there. Many are for, many are against whether it is for religious rights or morals. According
to CDC there has been reports of 44,498,750 abortions from the year 1970 to the year of 2014
alone(“Reproductive Health.”). As the years progress, so does the popularity of the controversial
topic of abortion. The statics shown from CDC clearly shows the rate of abortion increasing each
year(“Reproductive Health.”).No matter how many times this topic has been talked about, there
has never been a true negotiation to meet what both opposing sides wants. People who are Pro
Choice and who are Prolife are working to come together within society to find a compromising
balance.
Abortion has been around as long as anyone can remember. The earliest documented
proof of the existence of abortion dates back as early as 4,000 years ago(Klabusich). Because
abortion has been around for such a significant amount of time, to criminalize it would take
years, therefore, it has never been done. When women make the decision to have an abortion, it
Tschabrun2
typically resulted in back alley abortions which is very unsafe. Multiple events eventually led up
to the Roe v. Wade case within the Supreme Court. Roe was a 21 year old women who was
pregnant in 1969. She had requested an abortion but was denied because it was only legal for
rape and insest(“History of Abortion.”). Roe believed that it is your body and you should be able
to do what you want and it should be a guaranteed right under the constitution. Roe took this
belief fighting to legalize abortion in 1973(“History of Abortion.”). In the district level Roe wins
against Wade, the district attorney representing the state of Texas. Even though Roe had won her
battle, a good percentage of people were unhappy of the outcome. Though some people were
unhappy with the results, it hadYour verb tenses need to be consistent become a big marking
To this day, abortion is still legalized, but it also a topic that has created a great debate.
The data provided by the CDC, there had been reports of 44,498,750 abortions redundant; you
already stated this earlier. from the year 1970 to the year of 2014(“Reproductive Health.”). Not
only were these reports given, as time went on the number of abortions increased. Based off of
this information, you can assume it is safe to say the rate of abortions in the United States is still
increasing. Because the rate of abortions is still increasing to this day, it is still a very relative
and controversial topic. It may have taken 15 years, but as of January 29, 2018 congress made
One of the biggest concerns of abortion is the mental and body damage after the
procedure. Depending on the woman and the reasoning behind the abortion, the side effects
some stress has been lifted off of their shoulders. Some women might also feel regret after the
fact. According to Haley Curl, a psychology major, the feeling of regret typically will come from
Tschabrun3
the fact that there is a thing growing inside of that person. Even if it cannot communicate, all
women typically will feel a connection with her unborn child(Curl). For some women, the the
procedure can result in depression and sometimes suicide. These are just a few of the mental
side effects. Not only can abortion affect the mental health of a woman, but physically damage
the body. The abortion procedure can result in damage to organs, the uterus and sometimes
even death(“AbortionFacts.com.”). Not only are people within society afraid of a woman’s
health after the abortion procedure, they believe it is cruel and unfair to be killing a living thing. It
is difficult to discern whether this paragraph supports pro choice or pro life.
If you Don’t address your reader look above, this is a baby that was born at the nineteen
week mark, in the second trimester of a pregnancy or four months(Greig). As you can see, the
baby is not very big, but still has all the normal features that make them like any other human
Tschabrun4
being. The majority of women who get abortions get them between the three-four month mark of
already developed arms, legs, hands, feet and even eyes. Because the baby has already
developed all of these features, a great majority of society feel even stronger about being Pro
Life. Curious as to why this is, Haley Curl was asked “Why do you believe people are even more
against abortion when the unborn baby has developed its features opposed to earlier in the
pregnancy?”. In response, “I believe people feel more drawn to the unborn child because it has
developed its features such as hands. This helps people feel more connected to the child
because it is more comparable to a newborn baby, unlike what looks like a blob in the first
trimester of a pregnancy”(Curl).
Recent studies have shown it is completely safe to perform an abortion procedure within
the first trimester. Not only will the baby not be fully formed, it will cause less damage to the
mother’s body. In a recent discussion involving president Trump and the senate, it was decided
to only accept abortion within the first twenty weeks of pregnancy, any requests after the 20
week mark would be denied(Stolberg). With this rule being applied to the abortions, the 2
opposing parties can somewhat meet half way in getting what they both desire. There will not be
an argument about killing a baby because the baby won’t even have a brain or heartbeat at this
point of a pregnancy. It would make a win win. In an interview with Haley Curl, she was asked
“What do you believe would be a good solution to make the opposing sides of abortion happy?”
the response received was, “I believe what President Trump and the Senate are trying to
achieve right now is a very beautiful way to try and please everyone. Though no matter how
much someone tries to please people, not everyone will be fully pleased with the
outcome”(Curl).

Above you will see counter protests outside of one of the many Planned Parenthood
buildings. Although many people at this protest were there because they believed federal taxes
should not be used to help fund abortions. The protesters were trying to be most effective by
getting the attention of the congress and President Trump, there were also many that were
trying to keep that help for the abortion procedures as it can cost a lot of money(“Protesters
Face Off”). This specific picture was taken in Denver, Colorado being one of over the forty
Like slavery, abortion has been around and practiced by mankind for many years.
Abortion will always be one controversial topic that no one will be fully happy of. Like Curl said,
no matter how hard you try to make everyone happy, it's pretty much impossible to achieve
that(Curl). In a perfect world there would be a way to please everyone with laws when it comes
to abortion, but this is not a perfect world. All that can be done is try to meet half-way with both
parties and try to please them, which is what President Trump is trying to accomplish.
