Strengths of the lesson:

1. The teacher prepared the students by introducing vocabulary items such as reflection,
symmetry, line of symmetry, etc. Informing the students about some important words
they are going to encounter in the lesson does prepare the students in a way that they
are given hints how these words operate in the context of their learning.
2. The topic was presented through a video song containing the vocabulary items and
their descriptions.
3. An activity followed the presentation of the topic where students were asked to
complete a symmetrical shape. A good number of students were involved in this
activity.
4. To make the meaning of the word reflection clear to the students, the teacher used a
mirror to concretize the abstract idea. This is such an excellent technique in making
students understand the meaning of a word.
5. The teacher modelled the activity by showing to the students on the white screen
how they are supposed to accomplish the task. Indeed, this is a good teaching
practice to guide learners how to go about the task. This is in line with Zone of
Proximal Development by Lev Vygotsky.
6. The class responded to the individual task as explained by the teacher through
examples.
7. The teacher was moving around to monitor students doing the different tasks.
8. All her activities relate to the objective of the lesson.
9. The evaluation instrument (quiz) is comprehensive enough based on the breadth of
the topic discussed. It had 3 tasks which were given enough practice activities.
10. The evaluation activity was parallel to the objective of the lesson. It had 5 items,
taken by 7 students. The Mean or average score of the whole class was 4.6, which is
way above the 50% passing mark of the school. The average score of the student
represents the class’ mastery learning. This means that the objective of the lesson
was achieved.
Areas for development:
1. It would be better to give the students activities one at a time. Activity 3 and Activity
4 sheets were given at the same time which might overwhelm the students and divide
their concentration/focus.
2. When giving a quiz, the teacher must always observe proper/generous distance
between or among the students to avoid any threat to the reliability of the test results.
The teacher must be reminded that the test can be valid, but it may not be reliable.
