1.0 Introduction
Welcome to the MBA program for working executives and we hope that your experience in this
program would prove to be satisfying both academically and professionally.
While pursuing this program, you would be required to interact with the academic counselors and
the program coordinator of the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) for academic support.
The purpose of this program guide is to give you a complete understanding of the Executive MBA
program and the methodology to be adopted for pursuing the program.
This program guide provides you information on the program structure, program deliverables,
schedule of personal contact program, assignments, term-end examination, progression to the
next semester, grading and certification etc.
CCE has a dedicated team of professional and academicians who will guide you through various
stages of the program. The names of the key persons are given at the last page and you may
contact them through e-mail or telephone for further assistance.
The distance learning mode in which these programs are being offered, have the following unique
and distinct advantages.
Earn while you Learn : Working professionals do not need to relocate to a fixed
University neither location nor need to take any study
leave/sabbatical.

Education (CCE) under the aegis of the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies,
provides an opportunity to working professionals to fast track their career paths to the
top. This program will help expand the knowledge and scaffold it on the skill base of the
student. Enrolling into this program gives the thrust to scale new and higher career
heights and work from the cutting edge of technology.
A management that helps to advance the educational aspirations of its employees sends
a clear message that it cares for its people and is committed to promoting the knowledge
culture in the organization. Certification is not meant to replace or overshadow
experience, but it does highlight people’s accomplishments and demonstrates that they
have expertise and knowledge in core areas within the profession.
The CCE is the constituent unit of the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies,
established and maintained by it. The centre is exclusively dedicated to offering need
based and highly skilled professional and technical programs through distance learning
mode for which it has all the support facilities. The degrees would be awarded by the
University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, created in accordance with section 2(f) of the
UGC Act, 1956, and have global acceptance.
The MBA programs for executives are designed for fast paced learning through a self-
instructional methodology with well conceptualized study material supplied and further
learning support provided in the form of personal contact classes, assignments, etc.

• Personal Contact Program (PCP) is organized by the Centre for Continuing Education
for 12 hours per subject per semester. The tentative schedule is as under:
• Mandatory two Assignments per subject per semester (overall weightage of 30% in
evaluation)
The study material is reviewed and updated periodically so as to keep them always
contemporary. Each course unit conforms to self instructional format having course
objectives, illustrations, summary, review questions, references, further readings and
space for writing notes.
• Printed course material and the assignments are supplied to all students and this cost
is covered in the program fee.
• The course material for each semester will be dispatched to the learners through our
dedicated courier well before the commencement of each semester. The course
material can also be personally collected from the CCE office.
• Any problem regarding replacement of the course material (i.e. damaged packs,
missing pages, etc.) should be addressed to Head (CCE).
• The student should immediately check the material on receipt and for any
discrepancy should be brought to the notice of the Asst. Manager (Operations).

• Personal contact program of 16 hours per subject will be organized in each semester.
• A well equipped library on the mother campus of the University supports and
enhances the learning experience. Students are also encouraged to access the On
Line Digital library on the fully Wi-Fi campus at Dehradun.
• Attendance in PCP is not compulsory, but the students would find such programs
useful as this would help them in clearing course related difficulties and at the same
time give them a feel of institutional environment.

• Students are advised to complete the assignments and submit the same within the
time frame provided for the purpose to ensure that their Grades do not suffer.
• When you receive the assignments, please follow the following procedures:
- Ensure that you have answered all the required number of questions and
assignments of the course.
• If your score is less than minimum qualifying grade, i.e. C in assignments, you will
have the option to score the qualifying grade, C or above by resubmitting
assignments in the next session.
• Read the assignments carefully and follow the instructions given in the assignment
itself.

• Go through the units on which assignments are based. Make some points regarding
the question, re -arrange those points in a logical order and draw up a rough outline
of your answer. While answering an essay type question, give adequate attention to
introduction and conclusion. The introduction must offer your brief interpretation of
the question. Make sure that the answer is logical and coherent, and has clear
connection between sentences and paragraphs. The answer should be relevant to the
question given in the assignment. Make sure that you have attempted all the key
points of the questions. Once you are satisfied with your answer, type down the final
version neatly and underline the points you wish to emphasize. While solving
numerical, use proper format and give working notes wherever necessary. Do not
extract any matter directly from the text provided. Also, weightage would be given to
illustrations of real life situations to explain concepts wherever applicable.
• Do not reproduce answers from the units. If you reproduce from the course material
you will get poor grades or lead to cancellation of assignment. For your information,
the University has installed Anti Plagiarism Software to detect such practices.
• All assignments should be submitted to the respective Faculty Member with a copy to
the Program Coordinator/Director by e-Mail.
- Should have submitted the assignments of that semester within the stipulated
time frame.
• If a student fails to appear in any term-end examination or fails to get pass grade (C)
in a paper, he/she may re-appear in any or all of them in the subsequent term-end
examinations. Such students will be required to deposit fee of Rs. 1,000/- per course
as re-examination fee.
• In case a student is registered to appear for the end Term examination at a specified
exam centre and does not write the exam at all on that date, the student will need to
re-register for the next exam cycle by paying an additional fee of Rs 1000/- per paper.

Examination date-sheet (Schedule which indicates the date and time of examination for
each course) will be communicated during the course of the program by e-mail/
uploaded to the University website.
*For all ‘E’ grades, the credits for the course(s) will not be considered for calculation of
Grade Point Averages.
Grades shall be awarded on the basis of performance in Assignments and end Term
Examinations.
The performance of a student will be evaluated in terms of two indices, viz., the Semester
Grade Point Average (SGPA) which is the Grade Point Average for a semester and
Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which is the Grade Point Average for all the
completed semesters at any point in time.
The SGPA is calculated on the basis of grades obtained in all courses, registered in a
semester:

The overall Grade Point of a student in the program of study up to the end of a particular
Semester shall be called Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). CGPA shall be
calculated on the basis of all grades, obtained in all completed semesters as follows:

Where
For students who do not meet the individual subject passing criteria or SGPA qualifying
criteria, their SGPA or CG PA will be calculated but their grade cards will mention that the
SGPA/CGPA qualifying criteria has not been met (NC).
Students are required to maintain a minimum SGPA of 2.00 to qualify in each semester.
For individual subjects, minimum passing grade shall be ‘C’.
6.6 Misconduct
Misconduct relates to any conduct that could be regarded by the University as prejudicial
to its members or is likely to bring the University into disrepute. Misconduct would
include, for example, impersonating and use of unfair means in examinations, or
plagiarism, etc which can lead to expulsion from the program.
As per normal practice, students of Semester-I, II, III, IV and V will progress into next
Semester without waiting for the examinations and results. Such progression will be
provisional subject to the candidate clearing all the requirements of the semester.
6.8 Certification
• Grade cards will be issued to students who have complied with all prescribed statutory
and mandatory University requirements in time.
