Outcome statement: By the end of this lesson I will have a clear understanding of the second and third chapter of
“Of Mice and Men.”
Objectives (I can statements): I can give you an accurate description of what happened during the second and third
chapter of “Of Mice and Men.” This includes character details, setting, events, etc.
Assessment (Formative, Summative): The students will follow along with the second and third chapter of “Of Mice and
Men.” Following the reading they will fill out their character sheets and answer the chapter two and three comprehension
questions. If they don’t finish in class then they are homework and due tomorrow.
Introduction/Hook/Anticipatory Set/Activating Prior Knowledge: (Warm-up, review of previous day’s lesson, check for
understanding of previous knowledge, questions you will ask)
Our warm up will include a brief discussion of chapter one such as their opinions and any confusion they may have.
We will then listen to chapters two and three as a class. Following the reading they will fill out the character chart
and answer the chapter two and three comprehension questions. (Questions are attached at the end)
Closure/Wrap up: This may be in the form of independent practice, a chance to share, or explicit restatement of the goals of the
lesson.

Extension Activities:
Students may work on the interpretation questions to receive extra credit.
Assessment /Modification:
Specific Student/Group: For the reading of chapters one, the students will be read to aloud. For students who need
help with their questions, they can come to my desk and I will read the questions aloud to them.
Differentiation:
What will I differentiate? Structured vs. Open Readiness: For students who need a more structured environment I
have decided to have them work independently on their questions. This will reduce the noise in the classroom and
allow them to focus better.
Technology:
