1
[TOPOGRAPHY MODEL - GARNET MOUNTAIN,MT]

Using any material of my choice, I built a color-coded 3D topography

model of Garnet Mountain located in Gallatin County of south western
Montana. The model’s base was built from a minimum bench mark and
elevation of 7,800 feet. From there I built continuous layers, each
representing 40 foot contours until I stopped construction at 8,245 feet.

2
[LAND ART]

I constructed a land art piece using snow. My land art piece was required
to be built and installed outside. I began construction in the yard area
behind Hapner Hall located on Montana State University’s campus.
Mimicking a snowflake, and because the season was winter at the time, I
was inspired to imitate a natural design such as snowflake found in the
natural environment.

3
[TREE HARDINESS]

For each of the 13 USDA Hardiness zones, I researched and found a na-
tive deciduous tree in each zone. Indicated below on board 1, is a list of
each tree I chose, their botanical and common name, their mature size in
feet, and temperature range. On board 2 is further information relating to
trees grown in zone 3 which is the zone Bozeman, Montana is classified
in.

4
[LAND USE PLANNING]

The goal of this assignment was to create a conceptual land use and
circulation plan using a bubble diagram. My theoretical client was a
developer that wanted to maximize the commercial developmental
potential of the site. My vision was to create a Montessori-based pre-
school downtown so that parents working in this particular area, which
is a business district, could easily drop-off and pick-up their child before
and after work.

5
[CONCEPT PLAN]
For this assignment I created a 24”x36” concept plan and elevation for the
Smith’s residence located in Bozeman, Montana. Using a scaled schematic
plan as base information, I hand drew illustrations in addition to color
rendering a section/elevation to scale and a conceptual plant and hard-
scape materials sheet.

6
[CONSTRUCTION]

For this assignment I used popsicle sticks to create a gazebo to scale.

Furnished with greenery, my main objective was to construct a fairy tale
cottage-inspired gazebo complete with a bench, shrubs, trees and
decorative vines for shade. My inspiration besides fairy tale stories, was
heavily influenced by Better Homes and Gardens magazine. The scale of
my gazebo is 1/2” = 1’.
