UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

 This lesson is part of the unit that deals with Embedded Technology & Engineering.

LESSON OBJECTIVE:
1. Students will be able to fill a chart with 90% accuracy.
2. Students will learn what tools they use in everyday life at home.
-Student Participation
 I expect that students will be able to list out tools that they use in their daily life.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
-Common Core Standard
 GLE 0407.T/E.1: Describe how tools, technology, and inventions help to answer questions and solve
problems.
-ISTE Standard
1. 6. Technology operations and concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts,
systems, and operation.

o b. Select and use applications effectively and productively.

MATERIALS:
1. YouTube video on Tools in everyday life

well as in Microsoft Office Word where the students will do their table.
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
● What tools do we use in our everyday life at home?
● Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
● This lesson will build on the question “How do science concepts, engineering skills, and applications of
technology improve the quality of life?”
● The next lesson will build on the types of tools that we use in professional carrers.
● I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of
this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

1. Introduction: I plan to pass around common household tools. To let them get an idea of what tools they
might use that I did not bring.
2. Procedures:
 First 15 minutes I will be introducing tools to the class and show the YouTube video on the tools.
 Second 15 minutes we will be going into more detail in a circle time activity.
 The Last 15 minutes they will be working by themselves on their table which will act as a formative
assessment.
-Procedure
 Activity 1: Circle Time
Prior to the computer
1. The teacher will have the students together sitting in the floor discussing what types of tools they may see
at home.
2. Students then will go to the computers and use google to find more detail on what types of tools they may
see at home and what they are used for.
At the computer
1. Students will then individually find information on tools that they will be putting into their table.
After the computer
2. The students will head back to their table and begin filling out their chart on Microsoft Office Word.
3. Closure: I plan to take the last 15 minutes to let the students fill out their table in Microsoft Office
Word.
