Matthew Zavolta Board of Checkered Squares

Problem Statement
One-day John and Mark grew tired of playing checkers. They decided to look at the 9x9 checker
board. They wanted to figure how many squares were on the checkerboard. They could not
decide on an answer. To find the answer, the started using different strategies and formulas.
They finally found a formula. It was (10-x) squared. How many squares are on the
checkerboard.

Process
I first started out counting out how many squares were on the checkerboard. I figured out it
was a 9x9 checkerboard. I made sure I got that number right because it was the starter number
to find out how many squares were on the checkerboard. While I was looking for how many
squares were on the checkerboard I had difficulty with this, but I completed the task. I went
down each square. For example, 1x1- 9x9. I found how many squares that each one could fit in
a 9x9 checkerboard. The equation I used was (10-x) squared. The 1x1 was a total of 81, 2x2 was
64, 3x3 was 49, 4x4 was 36, 5x5 was 25, 6x6 was 16, 7x7 was 9, 8x8 was 4, and 9x9 was 1. After
finding all those squares the total came out to be 285 squares in a 9x9 checkerboard.

Solution
The equation that I used was (10-x) squared. That gave me the answer I needed to complete
the task which was to find how many squares are in a 9x9 checkerboard.
