Dear Director of Human Resources:

Hello, my name is Julia Cooperstein. I will graduate from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in May 2018
with a Bachelor of Science in both Early Grades Preparation (PreK-4) and Special Education (K-8) and a minor in
Literacy. I am currently a participant of the Professional Development School (PDS) internship, a year-long student
teaching placement in which I have been fully immersed in the life of a teacher.

The position of an elementary educator requires a dedicated individual whose mission is to educate students based
on their own uniqueness that they bring to the classroom. I am continuously learning new things about my
students and maintain high, yet realistic expectations for them. This knowledge is informative to my instruction in
that I am able to support the rigor needed for each individual to be successful and to maximize their potential for
learning and growth. I would continue these practices as an elementary educator in your district and community.

Through my year-long student teaching placement I have gained valuable experience and insight that have helped
transform me into an effective and purposeful educator. I have extensive experience in co-planning and co-
teaching with both my regular education and special education mentor teachers. My experience in Special
Education has strengthened my ability to differentiate for the diverse learners within a group of students. This has
enhanced my teaching of guided groups in Readers’ and Math Workshops, as each group has their own set of
strengths and needs. My literacy minor coursework has supported my English Language Arts instruction in both
the general education and special education environments. The 2-4th grade ELA learning support environment has
been heavily phonics/phonemic awareness and fluency based while my 4th grade general education ELA
environment has been focused on comprehension and analysis strategies and “reading to learn.” I have utilized the
Writer’s Workshop model and have helped move students through the stages of the Writing Process, implementing
a conference structure that has led to noteworthy improvements in students’ writing. My implementation of the
Math in Focus curriculum has helped students conceptualize and understand the “how” and “why” of mathematics
rather than the rote memorization. I feel that my variety of experiences across learning environments have helped
shape me into a well-rounded, competent educator.

I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to apply the things I have learned and insight I have gained through my
course work and field experiences into my own classroom. I hope to instill in my students the same life-long love of
learning that I possess and that motivate and support me in my career as an educator. I am confident that my
education, experience and skills will make me an asset to your team of dedicated professionals and to the students
and families you serve. If you would like to discuss my qualifications and interest in joining your staff, it would be
my privilege to meet with you at your earliest convenience. I can be reached by phone at (610)-945-4455 or by
email at juliacooperstein@gmail.com. Thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to sharing my
experiences with you.

Sincerely,

Julia Cooperstein
