Section 1.1 Setup & Teardown of Scanners
Introduction

For many surveyors the process of setting

up an instrument is simply second nature to
them. However, with a Scanner the
smallest oversight can cause unwanted
delays or improper operation. Follow the
steps in this section when setting up your
ScanStation 2 and HDS6000.

The following section will also describe the

LED lights on the bottom turrent, and the
proper care of tearing down the Scanners.
Being careful with your investment is
important.

Section 1.2 Target Configurations
Introduction

In this section you will understand the

different Target Configurations used with
the Scanner. Improper assembly of targets
can make a project successful or
unsuccessful. This section will help you
familiarize yourself with the Targets and the
Twin Pole assembly.

top and the other on the bottom. See Figure 1.

• Upper target with 1 male thread on top.

Section 1.2 Target Configurations
3. Twin Target Pole Parts & Assembly

• Assemble the lower system part, consisting of:

(A) the tip,
(B) the lower target, and
(C) the 0.5m pole section, as shown in Figure 1.

• Assemble the upper system part, consisting of:

(D) the 0.75m pole section, and (E) the upper target, as
shown in Figure 2.
Figure 1 Figure 2
• Prepare the pole tripod Optional accessory (Art. No 670
223) and assemble the lower and upper system parts, as
shown in Figure 3.

The upper target orientation can be adjusted with the help

of the Allen tool located in the system bag pocket. At
system delivery the system is aligned so that lower and
upper targets aim at the same direction when assembled.
If using more than one twin target pole system, you may
mark the system elements belonging together in order to
avoid mixing them up.

Section 1.2 Target Configurations
3. Twin Target Pole Parts & Assembly

• Pole Extension Assembly- The 0.25m pole extension

is an optional part of the system. It is provided to
overcome line of sight obstructions between the
scanner and the lower target such as grass or terrain
depressions.

• If needed because of visibility obstructions, the 0.25m

pole extension shall be mounted between the tip and
the lower target, as show in Figure 1.

• Dimensions- Distance between lower and upper

target centers is 1.70m / 5.577ft. And distance from
ground point to lower target center is 0.2m / 0.656ft.
See Figure 2.

We recommend de-assembling the Twin Target pole

and using the system bags for transportation. This
helps preventing for wear and tear of the pole threads
Figure 1 Figure 2
and bending of the pole sections, which would impair
the verticality of the system.
