CSI Major: Secondary Education- History EDUC 290

Indicate University/College (transfer institution):_Idaho State University________

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin to address the graduation
requirements for your major and to address the entrance requirements for your chosen four-year
institution. Please address the questions below. Please type your responses.

1. 1. What courses are you currently taking this semester? I am taking the following
courses this semester: BIOL 100 CO4W, EDUC 290 CO1W, GEOL 104 C02W (as well as
the lab), and GNED 101 C24W.

2. 2. What courses do you need to graduate with your AA degree? (Please see Lena Paxton
to get a copy of your Degree Audit, if you have problems. Lena is located in the Matrix in the Taylor
Administration Building on the CSI campus; you can also email her at lpaxton@csi.edu.) Otherwise, go to
MyCSI under your grades option. GNED 101: Intro to General Education, COMM 101,
ENGL 101, ENGL 102, GEN ED Humanities (2), GEN ED Mathematics (1), GEN ED
Science (2), EDUC 204 Families Communities and Culture, GEN ED Social Science (1)
GEN Ed Wellness, EDUC 201: Foundation of Education, EDUC 202 Field Experience,
EDUC 205: Develop/Indiv Differences, EDUC 215 Educational Technology, EDUC 290:
Education Exit Seminar.

3. Have you applied for CSI graduation? (https://www.csi.edu/forms/students_forms/gradapp/)

I have applied for CSI graduation after Summer 2018 semester.

1. 4. What are the entrance requirements for your chosen four-year institution? What
are the application deadlines? If you plan to apply for scholarships, what are the
scholarship application deadlines? Have you applied for financial aid?

2. I have applied for financial aid for the upcoming school year. I plan on applying for
scholarships offered by the institution and looking into local scholarships offered for
education degrees. I have not yet decided where I will transfer to. I am looking for a
University that has the option of finishing my teaching degree online. The ones listed on the
site did not offer this option. I have looked in to Western Governors University, but I do not
think that they have an emphasis of History as one of their secondary options. I would really
like to finish my degree in the Teaching and Educational Studies at Idaho State University. I
have talked to the Superintendents here in Salmon and they said there could be a possibility
of doing an alternative route program. This is the requirements at ISU: The Alternative Route
programs require submission of an application packet and a plan that is approved by the
Idaho State Department of Education. Some of the alternative routes require a request from
and the participation of an employing school district. Some alternative routes require
participation of a college or university. For the College of Education at Idaho State
University to participate in an Alternative Route plan, a copy of the plan must be filed with
and signed by the dean or associate dean of the College of Education. The candidate must be
admitted to enroll in courses through the university and the candidate must meet other
admission requirements as determined by the College of Education (such as verification of a
successful background check).

3. Teaching and Educational Studies Mark Neill, Ed.D, Chair

4. The Department of Teaching and Educational Studies offers undergraduate and
graduate degree programs in elementary education, secondary education, early childhood
education, and general family and consumer sciences. The department also offers core courses in
educational foundations for teacher preparation programs and master of education degree
programs.
5. Declaration of Major/Program
6. The College of Education offers degree programs in both teacher certification and
non-teaching options. Candidates for degrees must choose from among the approved majors,
minors, or emphasis areas of their degree programs. Candidates seeking teacher certification
must choose from among the teaching majors and minors that result in endorsements, and must
choose the teaching option of their degree program. Declaration of major/program must be
accomplished by the time a candidate has completed 58 credits of coursework. For teacher
candidates, this is usually accomplished at the time of application and admission to Teacher
Education (see the section on Teacher Education). Prior to admission to Teacher Education,
prospective teacher candidates will be classified as Pre-Majors in their respective degree
programs.
7. General Education Requirements
8. All candidates who have declared a major in the College of Education and plan to
acquire a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Music Education degree must
complete the objectives of the university’s General Education Requirements. A minimum total of
thirty-six (36) credit hours of General Education coursework must be taken for all baccalaureate
degrees. Candidates transferring to Idaho State University from a junior college that is part of the
state wide articulation agreement should refer to the Transfer Credit Limitations in the
Undergraduate Admission to determine fulfillment of the University General Education
requirements; however, all candidates who plan to enter teacher education and who plan to
complete the Student Teaching Internship must fulfill, or have fulfilled, General Education
Objectives. Checklists available in the College of Education Advising Center provide guidance
for candidates in the Elementary, Secondary, Special Education programs.

10. 5. Does your chosen four-year institution require Praxis 1 (or other tests)? ISU
suggests the Praxis Core and Praxis II. What scores are needed? Praxis Core: Math 150,
Reading, 156, Writing 162, Score for History- Praxis II 141. What are the dates for Praxis 1
(or other tests)? Do these tests have to be completed before the application deadline? If so,
how long does it take to process test scores?
