Name: Thapelo Haughton

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an “A” provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.
Grade Level: 7th Grade
Content Area: Social Studies
Technology Used (check all that apply): X Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: L7-RHSS7: Integrate visual information (e.g., in

charts, graphs, photographs, videos, or maps) with other information in print and digital texts.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:As the teacher I will introduce the class to Captain John Smith
was and why he is an important figure in history. Then I will tell them about the program movie
maker which will be used for their lesson in the next coming weeks. After showing the class the
movie maker, I will pass out a handout explaining what the upcoming lessons will require. Students
will choose any one of the people who made contributions in history like Chief PowToon and
Pocahontas. Once the students have chosen a person we will all go to the computer lab to find photos
to go into our movies. As the class is wrapping up in their quest for photos I will model an example of
a video, so they have an idea what I am looking for. This project will take approximately two weeks
because we will only be working on this project in class so that everyone has access to a computer.
But we will work as a class to make these movies so that no one will fall behind. Once the videos are
finished the class will invite other classes or parents to come and view the students’ work. I will
grade the videos based on creativity, participation and video focus, and the video’s cohesiveness.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking:

Loti 4 because the students are working on their own but with guidance. The students are also using
only technology to create the project but only worked on in class. The videos will be presented
outside the classroom to parents on student night. Assessment because the students are
demonstrating what they learned by making a video for student night, the video is based off of a
required standard, and students are learning during the assessment.

Importance of technology:
Using a multimedia tool is critical because without this the project would not be possibly to make.
Only because the whole project revolves around the program Movie Maker. The project will
completely change Loti levels and Blooms levels because there will be no technology and they will
not be learning a new tool. Only the computer will be used in this project.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you’d minimize risks to
students/yourself, alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and follow school districts’ Internet Safety/Use Policy.
Students will be taught how the dangers and safety procedures of Internet. And taught the safety procedure they
need to use and be aware of when using the internet
