INTRODUZIONE
Go for Grammar! è una grammatica generale, creata per gli studenti italiani, che parte da un
livello elementare e affronta gli argomenti che vengono trattati nel quinquennio della Scuola
media superiore (CEF livello A1 a B2), utili sia per coloro che desiderano acquisire buona
padronanza della lingua inglese sia per coloro che si preparano per Certificazioni linguistiche
come PET (Cambridge Preliminary English Test) e FCE (Cambridge First Certificate in English).
Può essere utilizzata in classe sotto la guida dell'insegnante, oppure per lo studio autonomo e
come manuale di consultazione.
Il volume si articola in 95 Unit, raggruppate in moduli tematici (ad esempio, “Sostantivi articoli
e dimostrativi”, “Comparativi e superlativi”, “Il passato”, “Il discorso indiretto”).
Ogni Unit, in sé autonoma e completa, consiste di una spiegazione di una o più strutture
grammaticali seguita da una sezione di esercizi, in ordine crescente di difficoltà, strettamente
collegati alla trattazione grammaticale. All'interno delle Unit, le spiegazioni per il
raggiungimento del livello B1 (PET) sono contraddistinte da titolazioni in nero e quelle per il
raggiungimento del livello B2 (FCE/First Certificate) sono contraddistinte da titolazioni in rosso.
Con questo stesso “codice colore" sono trattati anche gli esercizi che si riferiscono ai due livelli.
La seconda parte (Exercises) propone una vasta gamma di esercizi, inclusi alcuni di tipo PET e First
Certificate, in ordine crescente di difficoltà, sulla forma e sull'uso, per mettere alla prova gli
studenti sulle strutture presentate.
Gli esercizi comprendono attività di completamento, trasformazione, selezione, abbinamento,
osservazione di immagini, ascolto, traduzione e produzione scritta.
Le tipologie testuali sono le più varie: dialoghi, questionari, articoli di giornale/riviste, quiz,
lettere e brani di civiltà, questi ultimi per offrire degli utili spunti sulla cultura anglo-americana
e sull’English-speaking world.

Alcuni sostantivi inglesi, essendo non numerabili, a differenza dell’italiano, non hanno
la forma plurale e quindi richiedono sempre il verbo al singolare.

◆ Altri sostantivi singolari che si riferiscono a gruppi di persone, nomi di squadre sportive
e di compagnie, sono spesso usati in inglese con un verbo plurale.

◆ I cognomi hanno una forma plurale in -s (o -es), preceduta dall’articolo the, usata quando
