UNIT II

sketches and equation. Discuss the limitation of the same.
2. Explain with necessary equations and sketch the principle of operation of the rotameter.
3. Write short notes about turbine flow meter and Calibration of different flow meter.
4. Discuss the working principle theory and installation of thermal type mass flowmeter. List the steps in
calibrating a volumetric flow meter with a neat sketch.
5. Give brief notes on the following types of positive displacement meters a. Nutating disc type. b. Oval gear
type. c. Reciprocating piston. d. Oval gear and helix type
UNIT III
1. Explain the principle of operation of the electromagnetic flow meter with different types of excitation and
sketches.
2. Write a short note on : i)Ultrasonic flow meters. ii)Vortex flow meters.
3. Write a short note on : i)Solid flow rate measurement. ii)Selection guidelines for flow meter.
4. What are all the variations in a target flow meter? Explain the principle of operation of any one type with neat
sketch.
5. Briefly explain any one types of ultrasonic flow meter with neat diagram.
UNIT IV
1. Discuss the principle of operation of various schemes of hydrostatic type level measuring system with merits
and limitations.
2. Explain a) principle of operation air purge level measuring system with neat diagram b) How liquid level is
measured using float and displacer type sensor?
3. Explain the boiler drum level measurement using differential pressure and hydra step method
4. Discuss the principle of operation of electrical type of level measurement with neat sketches.
5. Describe the capacitance method of level measurement and mention its advantages and disadvantages.
6. Explain the bubbler tube method of level measurement & D/P method of level measurement.
UNIT V
1. Explain the construction and principle of operation of dry bulb psychrometer with neat sketch.
2. Explain then principle of operation of humidity measurement. Explain the working principle of any one type
of hygrometer with the neat sketch.
3. Discuss the principle of operation of different methods of moisture measurement.
4. Explain dry and wet bulb psychrometer with neat sketch.
5. Explain how moisture is measured in granular materials and solid penetrable materials.
