You will be playing the role of an interior designer getting ready to follow through on the design plan. As
an interior designer, the schematic design phase involves creating a draft floor plan, selecting a color
scheme, and considering budget.
The class has been divided into groups of 3-4. You will be rotating through the centers together to
complete the activities. Prior to beginning your rotations, you will be given a scenario with which you
will base most of your activities on.
The floor plan center will give you the opportunity to create a housing floor plan that would work best for
the family scenario you have been assigned.
The color scheme center will have different color swatch booklets present for you to consider for your
housing plan. You will be selecting one that will fit your scenario best and reflecting on why you chose
the colors you did. Consider our previous classroom lessons for this center.
The budget center will ask you to fill out a chart that includes some (certainly not all) things to consider
when thinking about housing design. Be mindful of the budget you have and make sure you don’t gov
over that!
