1. OBJECTIVE
To observe the existence of internal shear force and bending moment developed in
beam based on external loading applied.
To study how shear force varies at the cut position of the beam for various loading
condition.
To estimate the shear force and bending moments developed.
2. THEORY
W1
L1 X
Lx
RA X RB
S.F x-x = RA – W1
OR S.F x-x = – RB
S.F x-x = RA
3. APPARATUS
Shear Force in a Beam Apparatus
Digital Force Display
Cut Section of the Beam
Differs Load
4. PROCEDURE
i. Following are the steps involve in this shear force calculation of beam. It is very
important to following the sequence of these steps as this experiment involve
electronic system which is integrated with software for shear force application and
calculation.
ii. First step is to setup the apparatus which involve starting the computer software
according to the guide provided and setting it to virtual experiment mode.
iii. Second step is to select the variable hanger load which is available in the property
selection box.
iv. Third step involves the placement of load at the required distance from one pivot
point of beam.
v. Data generated as the result of force application is recorded by the software
automatically.
vi. Third step is repeated for the different loads and for each load software record data
automatically in its memory.
vii. Graphs were prepared using the data obtain from the experiment.
5. RESULTS
Beam span = ………………….mm
Distance of the shear section from the left support, Lx = ………………….mm
Distance of the load from the left support, L1 = ………………….mm
