Big Ideas/Unit Goals:


Principals and Elements of Design: the Principals and Elements are essential to every piece of art made. a truly exceptional work of art will include most, if not all,
Principals and Elements.
Three Types of Art: Representational, Abstract, and Non Representational are the three types of art that every piece can categorized as.
Drawing as the Base of Art: Drawing from observation is a fundamental that can be built upon and is a skill that leads to success in all other aspects of art.

Unit Summary:
In this unit students will be drawing a self-portrait that displays the principals and elements of design; the drawing will also be both abstract and representational. Drawing
is necessary to take a leap into any form of art. Whether you are a painter, sculpture or even an installation artist, drawing is essential in succeeding at your craft. By Drawing
a self-portrait one can use the image of themselves to increase their use of elements and principals of design. Drawing yourself allows you to notice things you would not
normally see. By creating a distorted self-portrait students will be able to see first hand how to apply both representational and abstract types of art in their work.
