Spanish – 1st Grade

Lesson Plan

Teacher: Ms. Jacquez

Date: 3/16/2018

Overview & Purpose

My lesson is to teach first graders how to create sentences in spanish. The sentences
are not complex, they are simple and easy to understand. Part of the lesson will also be
about identifying animals and translating them from english to spanish. At this point
their spanish is not very good, so in order to get better they need to practice, and have
backup for help and corrections.

Education Standards

1. Are clear, understandable and consistent

Objectives
1. Students will be able to greet and say goodbye in spanish.
2. Express how they are feeling at the moment.
3. Be able to translate from spanish to english.
1

Materials Needed
1. Paper
2. Writing utensil
3. (optional) Markers

Assessment / Assignment
Steps to check for student understanding

1. They way I know my students met the objectives is after an error, if i correct
them, give them another problem. If they answer that right or do a better job with
the other problem, then i know they fully understand and know whats going on.
2. Students would use this in a future, knowing more basic type of spanish to from
sentences and words needed to know incase they travel.

Instruction
Describe activity that will reinforce the lesson

In the beginning of the class, I will clap and they would have to mimic the clap pattern. If
by then students are still talking, then respectfully ask them to be quiet. Then I will start
them with an activity/bell ringer about translating colors from english to spanish. Then I
will give a lesson about translating but with more difficult concepts such as animals,
foods, and simple sentences. For example “Hola buenos dias!” wait for a response back
from everyone. Then start with the bell ringer of translating the colors blue, red, and
green. After we got through the answers we have more practice problems, translating
lion, elephant, dinosaur. After we switch and go from Mono, caballo, and ave. Then after
with partners they will get an assigned latin american group to learn about the country
and culture. It will be simple such as they eat these foods, what they wear and ect. After
the activity there will be arts and crafts to draw the latin assigned flag, and then have to
start to clean up. They need to put everything back in their place such as scissors,
markers, crayons and anything that is on the desk or floor. They then have to stay at
their seats to chat for a while before they are dismissed.

Technology:

A way I would use technology in the classroom is making powerpoints, with

variety of pictures to show them countries in Latin America and how its
like. Also showing them videos of other examples such as poverty to
realize what going on, how they can help and be grateful for what they
have.
