There is no best way to deal with pests in
agriculture. Pesticides whih are commonly used
may cause many problems. I think combining
different management operations is the most
effective way to control pests.
First, the chemicals in the pesticides may
built up as residues in the environment and in
the soil which absorbs the shemicals. This
reduces the quality of farm product.
Secondly, pests can gradually become
resistant to pesticides. This means that newer
and stronger ones have to be developed.
Lastly, some pesticides affect non target
plants and animals such as fish and bees. This

So, understanding of ecology of an area
helps a lot in pest control. Pesticides should be
chosen and applied carefully so that they don’t

Agustinus Adisucipto (1916 – 1947)
Born in Pangkursari, Salatiga, Central
Java, Adisucipto was known as the founding
father of the Indonesian Air Force. He was the
first Indonesian who flew the first Indonesian
airplane. He was also the founder of the school of
Aviation, which later became the Air Force
Academy.
A desccendant of an empu who was one of
Prince Diponegoro’s troops, Adisucipto was
predicted to have short life. Mbah Wiryo,
Adisucipto’s grandfather, said that his grandson
was like Palgunadi, a cou-rageous and honest
wayang character who dies young. That was why
Adisucipto father insisted that his son go to
School tot Opleidings Van Indische Arisen
(STOVA), a medical school for Indonesian
during the Dutch Co-lonial period, and become a
doctor. How-ever, Adisucipto’s determination to
become a pilot was so strong that he dropped out
of his medical school to enter the aviation school.
At the Militaire Luchvaart Opleidings, a
school of aviation in Kalijati, West Java he

means “Island of Light”. Most of the people
here are Malays and they are friendly.
Yesterday we watched a Balinese dance called
Kecak or Monkey Dance. The guide told us that
there about 200 different Balinese dances! Each
dance tell a story.
The Kecak is one of the most well-known
dances. There are 150 dancers performing the
Kecak. The costume they wore were very
beautiful. We took a photograph with them.
