Activity
The teacher will use this activity during the animal classification
unit. This will be played after learning about what characterizes
different animal groups, and which animals would be grouped
together. The student will design a “Connect 4” game to share
with classmates, using what they have learned about animal
classification. The teacher will evaluate and confirm the
student’s knowledge of animal classification, including which
animals are grouped together, as well as the student’s ability to
use the specific computer program to create the game. The
teacher will provide the student with a list of acceptable
answers and check the game for errors after the student is
finished. The students will then play each other’s games to
reinforce animal groupings. The teacher may also create a game
for the entire class that includes group characteristics, such as
warm-blood and giving birth to live young, to emphasize the
distinctions between animal groups. The students will then

create their own versions of the second type of game, to help


reinforce all concepts of the unit.
