EXAMPLE 1

1. What are the four skills?

 Reading
 Writing
 Listening
 Speaking

2. How can the four skills be used together effectively?

The four skills can be used together effectively by jigsaw activity or dictogloss activity.
Jigsaw activity - Same principles as information gap activities in that each students in a
group is provided with only some of the information they need. Students work together
to finish the activity. Here each students will master on something and share the
information to other group members.
Dictogloss activity - Instructor will read a passage. Students will listen. Second time
student will listen and write. Third time students will listen and complete the dictation.
Finally share with the partner what they have written.

3. What are some examples of activities that integrate the four skills?

 Theme- based activities - Teaching on topics, situations or themes as one of their

organizing parameters.
 Task Based language teaching - Exchanging opinions or expressing feelings.
 Real World communicative task - A job interview, a recipe, public
announcements, email and invitations.

EXAMPLE 3
1. Listening , Speaking , Reading and Writing
2. Listening, is used most widely in people’s daily lives. In addition, teaching the
learners a lot of listening activities is a good way of enlarge their vocabulary. On the
other hand, it also helps the learners improve their listening comprehension.
Speaking is often connected with listening. Two way communications helps create a
fresh environment for speaking language.
Reading is an important way of gaining information in language learning and it is a
basic skill for a language learner.
Writing provides a learner with physical evidence of his achievements and he can
measure his improvement. It helps to consolidate their grasp of vocabulary and
structure, and complements the other language skills.
So generally these four skills cannot be separated.

3. Story telling activities. First, the learners listen the story. Then, talk about the story.
After that read the story that they listen to. At last, the learners write the story.

Activity 1: Mind your language

EXAMPLE 1
1. From my point of view, the learners proficiency in the English language were not so
good. Furthermore they came from differents country with different background.
2. L2 depends on L1. If L1 fails, so does the L2.
3. Not at all. There were only conversation, whereby the teacher try to get the learners
to understand the alphabet without something visible.

EXAMPLE 2

1. What are your views on the learners proficiency in the English language?

The learners proficiency in English language is not so good.

2. Discuss on the relationship between L1 and L2 and its impact on

L2 .
Almost everyone acquires a first language, but not everyone acquires
a second language.

Reading: L2 readers can benefit from their reading-strategy developed in L1

Writing: transfer of assumptions from L1 writing can sometimes help the process of
writing in L2

3. Are the integration of skills reflected in the lesson?

Yes, pronunciation skill.

A student's first language often interferes with English pronunciation and learners will
unable to hear certain English sounds that the native language does not contain.
EXAMPLE 3
1.Based on my view, learners proficiency in English language is really poor. They are
having difficulties to distinguish phonemes of English language.
2. L1 and L2 both are interrelated. A person's L1 can influence the way they speak L2.
The impacts of L1 might be the positive or negative one. It depends on how we utilise it
in improving L2. This video projecting negative side of first languange in second
language proficiency. This will affect segmental and supra segmental of L2. In
segmantal feature the way their pronounce certain words will be more to L1 way of
pronunciation. They pronounce a certain word in L2 based on L1 phonemes because
there is certain phonemes that is not exsist in native language. Thus they fit it into
L2. Besides, frequent usage of L1 will cause accent differ in L2. The stress and intonation
of English also will be influenced by L1
3. Integration of all skills partially reflected in the lesson. There less emphasis given to
writing and reading skills.

EXAMPLE 4

1.In my view,Students at this level have very limited or no understanding of English.

They rarely use English for communication. They can respond non-verbally to
commands, statements and questions in simple form. As their oral comprehension
increases, they begin to use simple words and phrases, and may use English
spontaneously.
2.These students can understand short conversations on simple topics. They rely on
familiarity. They use repetition, gestures and non-verbal cues to sustain coversation.
When reading, students at this level can understand basic narrative text and authentic
materials, although they will be below grade level. They rely on contextual and visual
cues to aid in comprehension. They can begin to identify the main idea and supporting
details of passages. They can write simple notes and make brief journal entries using
basic vocabulary and common language structures. Frequent errors are characteristic at
this level.
3.yes.

Task 1 (Express your views)

EXAMPLE 1
1. In my oppinion, in the Malaysian schools environment, this method can be applied
during learning-teaching in the classroom or outside the classroom. For example, in
boarding schools, whereby the students can communicate with each other using simple
English words. This can be the turning point for them to get rid of their fear of
communicate in English. The schools also have to provide the environment whereby,
the students can learn through seeing, reading, listening, writing and speaking the
English language. The Parents Teachers Association in every school must be engaged (if
possible) to ensure that the learning of English language occurs at home as well.
2. I would like to apply the knowledge from this extracts to my students in and outside
the classroom. Every day, I will introduce a word, which become word of the day. The
word can be a root word, a word with multiple meanings and the prefix as well. The
numeric prefixes can be well introduced in math and science lessons.

EXAMPLE 2
1. The content in this extract gave me ideas on building up pupils vocabulary in school.
2. I can organize group activity as suggested during the co-curiculum after school. During
my lesson, i may also let my pupils get warm up with brainstorming on words and its
meaning that i taught before.

EXAMPLE 3
1.In my opinion, this extract would be helpful in our Malaysian schools for teaching
vocabulary by using words to teach words. the students will have a fun learning
activities and enjoy their lesson very much as well.
2. i would like to apply the knowledge gain from this extracts by writing a free writing
activities with my students.

EXAMPLE 4
1. This extract will be very helpful in Malaysian schools. The teaching methods stated in
the extract will be a foundation for pupils to expand their vocabulary knowledge. Family
is the first teacher for the children. So, family have to start teaching their children from
the earlier stage. When family "use words to teach words", it will be easier to schools to
enhance their exsistent vocabulary skills.
2. During my language lesson, I will apply those three approaches in Esl classroom. First,
I will conduct group activities which consisit of mixed abilities pupils and each of them
need to contribute on root or bare word. From that words they have to expand it to
complete or complex word by adding affixes. This also will create words with multiple
meanings. After that they can discuss with their fellow mates about the words. Besides,
I will also show videos related to root words, multiple meaning and affixes. This will
capture pupils attention for learning words and encourage them to expand their
vocabulary. Other than that, i will have online activities or games via edmodo, kahoot
and canvas in my Els class. This will increase their knowledge thoroughly.

for English lessons, Pro-ELT and ICELT program. As a teacher i must try to speak more,
listen more, write more and read more in English language to encourage my pupils to
improve their English level.

EXAMPLE 4
1.In our country..English is remain as second language...because our national languange
is Bahasa Malaysia.
2.As i know, the activities such as eltc programmes can lead to good performance for
english language.Furthermore,MBMMBI also one of the programme where 2 languages
Bahasa and English are given special attention to us to role in and bring up the language.
3.So far...except lesson period,I used to speak english with my pupils.Eventough, there
are some mistakes will take place...i wil let them to keep on speaking..while correct the
mistakes.

EXAMPLE 5
1. English is the second language in Malaysia, since it take place in our education

 Make your shopping list based on how many meals you’ll eat at home. Will you
eat out this week? How often?
 Plan your meals for the week before you go shopping and buy only the things
needed for those meals.
 Include quantities on your shopping list noting how many meals you’ll make with
each item to avoid overbuying. For example: salad greens - enough for two
lunches.
 Look in your refrigerator and cupboards first to avoid buying food you already
