Day 1
칭찬
칭찬이라고 생각할게요. I will take it as a compliment. -라고 = used for quoting someone’s remark
-라고 is a verb ending used for citing or quoting a noun.
생각하다 = to think, to feel
-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V
칭찬으로 안 들리는데요? It doesn’t sound like a compliment. -으로 = as, to, with, via, through, into, in, toward, on
안 = not
들리다 = to sound, to be heard
칭찬해 주셔서 감사합니다. Thank you for the compliment. -아/어/여 주다 = to do something for someone
-아/어/여서 = so, therefore
감사하다 = to be grateful
감사합니다. = Thank you.
칭찬도 매일 들으면 질려요. You can only take so many compliments. -도 = also, too, even
매일 = everyday, all the time
듣다 = to hear, to listen
-(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
질리다 = to be sick of something
칭찬을 받으면 기분이 You feel good when you get a 받다 = to get
compliment. -(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
좋아져요. 기분 = mood, feelings, emotion
좋다 = to be good
-아/어/여지다 = to become + adjective
그 사람은 칭찬에 인색한 He rarely gives compliments. 그 사람 = that person, he, she

편이에요. 인색하다 = to be stingy
인색한 is the adjective form of 인색하다.
-(으)ㄴ 편이다 = to be on the + adjective + side, to be kind
of + adjective
그렇게 좋은 일을 했으니 You did such a nice thing so you deserve 그렇게 = like that, that much
a compliment. 좋다 = to be good
칭찬받을 만해요. 좋은 is the adjective form of 좋다.

-았/었/였으니 = since + S + V-ed
받다 = to receive, to get
-(으)ㄹ 만하다 = to worth + V-ing
칭찬도 너무 지나치면 Compliments can also be rude if they are -도 = also, too, even, even though
too much. 너무 = too much, excessively
실례가 될 수 있어요. 지나치다 = to be excessive
-(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
실례 = discourtesy, bad manners
실례가 되다 = to be rude, to be -(으)ㄹ 수 있다 = can, to be
able to, there is a good chance that + S + V
아이들을 칭찬해 주고 I want to praise the kids, but they always 아이 = child, kid
cause trouble. -들 = suffix for plural
싶은데, 항상 문제만 -아/어/여 주다 = to do something for someone

Day 2
아프다
마음이 아프다 to feel bad, to feel heart broken 마음 = mind, one’s thought, heart
골치가 아프다 to be troubled by a problem, to have a 골치 is a vulgar expression for “inside one’s head” or
headache “head” and is almost only used in the form of 골치가 아프
다.
어디 아파요? Are you sick? Are you not feeling well? 어디 = somewhere
아파서 먼저 갈게요. I’m not feeling very well so I’ll leave first. -아/어/여서 = since, because
먼저 = first, earlier, before + N
가다 = to go
-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V
아프면 집에 들어가서 If you are sick, go home and rest. -(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
집 = house, home
쉬세요. -에 = at, in, from, to
들어가다 = to enter, to go inside, to leave
쉬다 = to get some rest
-(으)세요 = imperative (polite)
아플 때는 아무것도 하기 When I’m sick, I don’t feel like doing -(으)ㄹ 때 = when, while, during
anything. 아무것도 = (not) anything
싫어요. 하다 = to do
-기 싫다 = to not feel like + V-ing
머리가 너무 아파서 약을 I had a very bad headache so I took some 머리 = head, hair
medicine. 너무 = too much, excessively
먹었어요. -아/어/여서 = since, because
약 = medicine, pill
먹다 = to eat
약을 먹다 = to take some medicine
하루 종일 서 있어서 다리가 I’ve been standing all day long so my legs 하루 = one day
hurt a lot. 종일 = all day, the whole day
너무 아파요. 서 있다 = to stand
-아/어/여서 = since, because
다리 = leg
너무 = too much, excessively
그렇게 아픈데 왜 병원에 안 If you are that sick, why aren’t you going 그렇게 = like that, that much
to the hospital? -(으/느)ㄴ데 = and, but
가는 거예요? 왜 = why, how come
병원 = hospital
-에 = at, in, from, to
안 = not
가다 = to go
골치 아픈 일이 있었는데, I had a problem that bothered me but it’s 골치 아프다 = to have a headahce

해결되다 = to be solved
아이스크림을 너무 많이 I had too much ice cream so now I have a 아이스크림 = ice cream
stomachache. 너무 = too much, excessively
먹어서 지금 배가 아파요. 많다 = to be a lot
많이 is the adverb form of 많다.
먹다 = to eat
-아/어/여서 = since, because
지금 = now
배 = belly, stomach, tummy
Day 3
소리
그 사람은 목소리가 커요. He has a loud voice. 그 사람 = that person, he, she
목소리 = voice
크다 = to be big, to be large
그 사람은 항상 이상한 He always says things that don’t make 그 사람 = that person, he, she
sense. 항상 = always
소리를 해요. 이상하다 = to be weird
이상한 is the adjective form of 이상하다.
이상한 소리를 하다 = to say something that doesn’t make
sense, to say weird things
소리 좀 줄여 주세요. Please turn down the volume. It’s too 좀 = a little, please
loud. 줄이다 = to reduce, to decrease
너무 시끄러워요. -아/어/여 주세요 = Do something for me (polite).
너무 = too much, little
시끄럽다 = to be noisy
Day 4
춥다
추우면 히터를 틀까요? If you are cold, do you want me to turn -(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
on the heater? 히터 = heater
틀다 = to turn on
-(으)ㄹ까요? = shall we + S + V? Do you want me to + V?,
Let’s + V, Should we + V?
요즘 날씨가 너무 추워요. The weather is so cold these days. 요즘 = lately, these days, recently
날씨 = weather
너무 = too much, excessively
추우면 안으로 들어갈까요? If you are cold, shall we go inside? -(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
안 = in, inside
-으로 = as, to, with, via, through, into, in, toward, on
들어가다 = to enter, to go inside, to leave
-(으)ㄹ까요? = shall we + S + V? Do you want me to + V?,
Let’s + V, Should we + V?
추운데 따뜻한 거 It’s cold. Do you want to drink something -(으/느)ㄴ데 = and, but
hot? 따뜻하다 = to be warm
마실래요? 마시다 = to drink
-(으)ㄹ래요? = Do you want to + V?, Shall we + V?
이렇게 입으면 너무 If I dress like this, will it be too cold? 이렇다 = to be like this
이렇게 is the adverb form of 이렇다.
추울까요? 입다 = to wear
-(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
너무 = too much, excessively
-(으)ㄹ까요? = Will it ...? (expressing assumption)
추운데 밖에 있지 말고 It’s cold. Don’t stay outside but come -(으/느)ㄴ데 = and, but
inside. 밖 = outside, out
들어와요. -에 = at, in, from, to
있다 = to be there, to be not there, to not have
-지 말고 = don’t do + V + but/and
들어오다 = to come in, to come home, to have something
inside, to be in (something)
왜 그렇게 옷을 춥게 입고 Why are you dressing so lightly (when it’s 왜 = why, how come
so cold)? 그렇게 = like that, that much
왔어요? 옷 = clothes
입다 = to wear
옷을 춥게 입다 = to dress too lightly (on a cold day)
오다 = to come
올해 들어서 오늘이 제일 I think today is the coldest day so far this 올해 = this year
year. 들다 = to enter, to make it
추운 것 같아요. 오늘 = today
제일 = the most
-(으/느)ㄴ 것 같다 = it seems like + S + V-ed
Day 5
낮잠 nap 낮 = daytime
잠을 자다 to sleep 자다 = to sleep
너무 더워서 잠이 안 와요. It’s too hot so I can’t sleep. 너무 = too much, excessively
덥다 = to be hot
-아/어/여서 = since, because
안 = not
잠이 오다 = to feel sleepy
잠이 안 오다 = to not be able to sleep
그 사람은 잠꼬대가 심해요. He talks a lot in his sleep. 그 사람 = that person, he, she
잠꼬대 = talking in one’s sleep
심하다 = to be excessive, to be too much, to be harsh
운전하다가 잠 오면 어떻게 What do you do when you feel sleepy 운전하다 = to drive
while you are driving? -다가 = while V-ing, in the middle of + V-ing
해요? 잠이 오다 = to feel sleepy
-(으)면 = if/when + S + V, once + S + V
어떻게 = how
하다 = to do
-(으)면 어떻게 해요? = What do you do when + S + V ?
이렇게 시끄러운 데에서 How do you sleep in such a noisy place? 이렇게 = like this, in this manner, so +adjective
시끄럽다 = to be noisy
어떻게 잠을 자요? 시끄러운 is the adjective form of 시끄럽다.

-에서 = at, in, from, to
어떻게 = how
잠을 자다 = to sleep
Day 6
보내다
아까 문자 보냈는데 I sent you a text message earlier. Did you 아까 = before, earlier
see it? 문자 = text message
보셨어요? -(으/느)ㄴ데 = and, but
보시다 = to see, to watch, to look (honorific)
보내 주신 선물은 잘 Thank you for the present you sent me. -아/어/여 주시다 = to do something for someone (honorific)
선물 = present
받았어요. 잘 = well
받다 = to receive, to get
이따가 문자 메시지로 I will send it to you later via text message. 이따가 = later
문자 메시지 = text message
보낼게요. -로 = to, with, by, in, on, from, as, for, by, via, at, through,
out of
-(으)ㄹ 것이다 = will, to be going to + V
이메일 보냈으니까 확인해 I’ve sent you an E-mail. Please check it. 이메일 = E-mail
-(으)니까 = because, since, now that
주세요. 확인하다 = to check
-아/어/여 주세요 = Do something for me (polite).
외국에 있는 친구한테 보낼 This is a parcel that I will send to a friend 외국 = foreign country, overseas
overseas. -에 = at, in, from, to
소포예요. 있다 = to be there, to have, to exist
친구 = friend
-한테 = to, from, by
소포 = parcel
이메일 언제 보냈어요? When did you send the E-mail? I haven’t 이메일 = E-mail
seen it yet. 언제 = when
아직 못 봤어요. 아직 = (not) yet, still
못 = can’t
보다 = to see, to look, to watch
Day 7
부탁
부탁을 받다
부탁이 있어요. I have a favor (to ask of you). 있다 = to be there, to have, to exist
I have something that I would like to ask 부탁하다 = to ask for a favor
you a favor about. 일 = work, thing, occasion, stuff
부탁할 일이 있어요. 있다 = to be there, to have, to exist
다시는 이런 부탁 안 I will never again ask you for such a favor. 다시 = again
다시는 = (not) again
할게요. 이런 = to be like this
안 = not
부탁을 하다 = to ask for a favor
다른 사람한테 부탁해 Ask someone else (to do you the favor). 다르다 = to be different
다른 is the adjective form of 다르다.
보세요. 사람 = person, people
-한테 = to, from, by
부탁하다 = to ask for a favor
갑자기 이렇게 부탁하시면 You can’t ask me for a favor so suddenly. 갑자기 = suddenly, all of a sudden
이렇게 = like this, in this manner, so +adjective
어떡해요? 부탁하다 = to ask for a favor
-(으)면 어떡해요? = You can’t + V, What am I supposed to
do if + S + V?
