YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

The Book of Joshua

The LORD’S Passover ~ Joshua 5:10-12; Exodus 12

Recapping:

In our last lesson, we took a look back at Israel departing Egypt. Israel would
have been excited; their families have been in bondage for a long time. God has heard
the pleas of His people; and He is getting ready to deliver them (Exodus 12).

Before the LORD gave instructions for the Passover, there was to be a change
of the calendar for the nation. God had said this shall be the 1st of the months for you ~
thus signifying that the nation Israel is on a separate calendar from the other nations.
They are a separate people ~ they are the LORD’S covenant people; and now they
were to be delivered out of Egypt.

The 1st month of the year, spring, was the beginning of the new life being brought
forth. Figuratively for the nation (collectively as a covenant people), the New Year was
the beginning of the new life brought forth for the nation ~ as a nation.

As we learned from the figurative message of the stars with their signs of the 1st
month ~ the nation Israel and the peoples of the earth from the sea of humanity are
under the new jurisdiction of the Sovereignty of the King. By looking at the luminaries of
the 1st month of Pisces, Israel who has been held captive is about to be broken free,
she is not going to be in bondage; and the peoples from the sea of humanity are going
to be under the jurisdiction of the King. That is what Israel would be seeing in the night
sky in terms of the 1st month of Pisces.

The heavenly revelation is a pictorial of the far fulfilment of the Kingdom Age ~
declaring the end of God’s plan. None of this has actually taken place but the luminaries
are declaring it is so because that is how God sees it. Those are the Ways of God ~ first
He declares the end of the plan all the way to the end saying: it is finished ~ and then
He proceeds to fill in the details for us. He never leaves you in the dark. If you are in the
dark, it is either because you do not have understanding or God isn’t sharing yet.

The figurative language of the two pictorials: the 1st month of Pisces ~ the
revelation of the plan in the heavenly luminaries; and the LORD’S Passover, act as a
witness of the plan of a Kingdom of sons of God. You have to put the two together, and
then you have a beautiful picture. Pisces shows the end; and with the instruction of
Passover, God declares what He is doing.

History of Passover

After the circumcision (back to Joshua), “And the LORD said unto Joshua, This
day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the
place is called Gilgal unto this day. And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and
kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
1
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover,
unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.”

“And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the
land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of
the land of Canaan that year” (Joshua 5:9-12).

Running parallel with the passage of Israel coming out of Egypt and Joshua’s
generation in Canaan, let’s look at the History of Passover.

The LORD’S Passover with its feast of Unleavened Bread though not mentioned
in Exodus and recorded out of order chronologically in the book of Numbers, was
celebrated only once in the wilderness.

As a matter of fact, that celebration ~ with the erection of the tabernacle a year
after the nations departure from Egypt (Numbers 9:1-14; Exodus 40:2-38) was the last
mention of Israel celebrating the LORD’S Passover until the end of the wilderness
journey with Moses preparing to die and the passing of the leadership to Joshua (see
Numbers 28).

And throughout the scripture depending on the text as it concerns the history of
the nation though the LORD’S Passover is always celebrated on the 14th of the 1st
month ~ the animals of lambs and kids of goats were not always the only animals
offered (see 2 Chronicles 35).

Also, it needs to be noted that the one-day celebration of First Fruits included
with the LORD’S Passover and Unleavened Bread came later with the establishment of
the Levitical offerings. First Fruits was not celebrated until the first celebration
with the generation under Joshua in the land Promised.

This is due not only to the fact that there were no crops to be planted or
harvested in the wilderness as the manna was the sustenance of 40 years; but also
there is a figurative pictorial to be revealed in that first celebration of First Fruits.

Passover is not part of The Levitical Offerings

The LORD’S Passover was not a Levitical offering. Figurative within the message
of the Levitical offerings initiated in the wilderness (not in Egypt) is the teaching of the
Person and Work of the Covenant Son.

Each of the 5 offerings ~ the Burnt, the Meal, the Peace, the Sin and the
Trespass offering with their animal sacrifices, pointed to Him and were fulfilled in Him ~
in relation to the sons of Israel ~ nationally as God’s Covenant People. Thus the
Levitical offerings were for Israel.

YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

The LORD’S Passover

The LORD’S Passover is a mini pictorial ~ a mirror image of the plan of the
covenant of Eternal life: for whosoever will believe and receive for any sons of Adam.
The Passover that is being described in Exodus is first expressed in the stars with their
signs, specifically in the sign of Libra.

Within the figurative message of the stars with their signs in Libra is the message
of the household of the Covenant Son. God has a plan for a household for sons of God.
The house of Propitiation (Libra) is where God meets man’s need of Eternal life for the
mortal body and righteousness for the soul in the Covenant Son. God’s plan, made in
eternity and brought into time, is to have man in His image, after His likeness ~ a
kingdom of sons of God.

The Eternal Covenant, declared in the luminaries, is a legal contract between the
parties of the Counsels of the Godhead in hope of Eternal life. Planned in eternity, as
Libra declares, a hope of Eternal Life, a covenant for a household of Sons of God.

The word covenant has the meaning of treaty, alliance, and agreement. Thus,
God’s covenant to have man in His image, after His likeness (Genesis 1:26); to save
and call with a holy calling [whosoever will believe and receive] not according to their
works, but according to His own purpose and grace was given in Christ Jesus ~ the
Covenant Son before the world began (2 Timothy 1:9). That is the Gospel; and the
details of the Gospel are found in the Word.

Hence the LORD’S Passover ~ the provision of the deliverance from death of the
first born is not an offering for sin but a “covering over” of that first born creation (in
Adam). The sign of the blood is a sign of deliverance from death for the firstborn with
the possibility of redemption unto salvation of Eternal life through the provision
offered.

Here is the deliverance out of Egypt ~ here is the way for the firstborn to be
delivered out of death: put blood on the two side posts and the upper door post of the
house. Putting blood on the door posts does not save a man and give him salvation
unto eternal life ~ it is not a redemption ~ it is a deliverance.

In the celebratory feast of the LORD’S Passover there is neither thought nor
mention of sin. As Westerners, when we see lamb ~ we automatically think sin ~ that is
not the picture. The shed blood of the LORD’S Passover is the figurative pictorial of the
“covering over” of the grace of God for the deliverance of the first born and is
confirmation of the testimony of the plan for the hope of Eternal life in the sign Libra.
The picture is: God has done it all.

The LORD is passing over the creation of humanity (born in Adam). God
provides deliverance ~ out of the creation of humanity with the possibility for any
individual to take the provision that the LORD is offering of the Seed for Eternal Life.
3
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

The issue with God is Seed ~ sons of God ~ Eternal Life. Man makes sin the issue; God
makes Eternal Life the issue. God has an order.

No blood on the door post resulted in death ~ Jew or Gentile. However, when
reading the text, God is specific in who He is going to strike ~ the Egyptians. The Jews
aren’t in Egypt, they are in Goshen (drawing near) ~ so why do they need blood on the
door posts? It is figurative of the provision of deliverance out of the firstborn creation
(James 4:8; John 12:32).

The LORD’S Passover covered the nation (Israel) corporately and any individual
Gentile who applied the blood of the LORD’S Passover to the doorpost and lintels of the
house as a sign of deliverance in order that the first born be spared death ~ hence the
mix multitude that departed Egypt. The mixed multitude that came out of Egypt would
also have to put blood on the door posts.

Thus, the emphasis of the LORD’S Passover is the deliverance of the first born
from death: is through the death of the LORD’S Passover ~ “When I see the blood, I
will pass over you” (Exodus 12:13). That passing over is figurative of the hope of the
Eternal life offered, that whosoever will, might be redeemed.

How do we know this is the picture of the Passover? “For God so loved the
world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not
perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16); and there is no mention of sin.

The Figurative Details of the First Born

The “first born” is figurative of the creation of the sons of the first Adam ~ those
sons born of the flesh of humanity. There are only two households of sons: the sons of
Adam and the sons of God. Sons of Israel come from the sons of Adam. The creation of
humanity ~ the first born are born dead in trespasses and sins, and condemned to
death. So what do they need? Life!

Man needs a body of spirit being (flesh, bone and the life of that body is spirit) ~
a body of Eternal life (1 Cor. 15:44). The Creator has the covering needed. Man is
brought forth a soul of spirit being clothed in a body of flesh (flesh, bone, blood) that he
might choose to become a son of God in the image of God (flesh, bone, spirit) and
experience the rest of God forever through a union of love.
The first birth is not a choice, but the second birth is. Man has been given the
opportunity to be delivered out of that first creation and receive the Eternal life offered in
the LORD’s Passover. Man has the privilege to be born twice.

The blood of the lamb and or goat was a double pictorial of the substitute for
the house ~ figurative of the Eternal life and the Way of escape from death provided by
God’s first born ~ the Covenant Son ~ the First Begotten Son of God.

4
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

Thus, to the one choosing to be twice born ~ that one becomes a part of the
second creation ~ the new creation are sons of God, be they of the household of Israel
or the ‘whosever will’ of the sons of Adam. That is why there is a mixed multitude that
comes out with Israel from Egypt.

The LORD’S Passover is the Seed Christ!

Exodus 12:1-27: Read

“… And the people bowed the head and worshipped.”

Feast of Unleavened Bread

The Feast of Unleavened Bread was eaten with the LORD’S Passover on the
15th of the 1st month. The Passover was slain at even on the 14th then roasted; and it
was eaten on the 15th with the Unleavened Bread. The LORD’S Passover and
Unleavened Bread ~ the two ~ are intrinsically connected. They cannot be separated
because of what they picture. One does not come without the other, and it is always
understood that way; but sometimes it is referred to as the Passover and sometimes
Unleavened Bread.

The LORD’S Passover was slain and roasted on the 14th and then eaten with the
Unleavened Bread on the evening of the 15th. The Passover was eaten only for one
day. Then for six days remaining, the Unleavened Bread was eaten for a total of 7 days
consecutively.

The ordinal seven ~ is used as no other number in the scripture. Seven and its
compounds occur in multiples in the scripture. In scriptural numerology, the number
expresses perfection or completeness.

The Figurative Details of the Unleavened Bread

The issue with God is Eternal life. The LORD’S Passover ~ the Covenant Son, is
the Life given that satisfies God. The First Begotten Son is the complete perfection of
that which God purposed ~ man in His image after His likeness ~ a son of God.

The Unleavened Bread figures the deathless body of Eternal Life of the Begotten
Son ~ the staff of Life ~ the Bread from heaven. God, Spirit being of Deity raised ~
clothed in a body of flesh and bone ~ spirit Life ~ Eternal life.

The Life Eternal raised in a body ~ the Seed ~ is that which satisfies both God
and man. This is understood in the figure of First Fruits. First Fruits is considered the 3rd
of Israel’s 7 feasts and is celebrated the day following the Sabbath of the first day of
Unleavened Bread ~ of the 1st month ~ which we refer to as the 16th.

The seven feasts of Jehovah are: Passover, The Feast of Weeks and the Feast
of Trumpets.

5
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

The first feast of Jehovah has three events, Passover, Unleavened Bread and
First Fruits. This festival as we know is celebrated in the spring.

The next festival of Jehovah, celebrated fifty days later, is the Feast of Weeks,
also known as Pentecost. This summer festival pictures the sowing of the Incorruptible
Seed, the Word of God, and the harvesting − ingathering of the Seed sown (sons of
God – Exodus 23:16).

The last festival of Jehovah also has three events: The Feast of Trumpets, the
Day of Atonement and Tabernacles. Everything that God does is with design and
purpose; and order is everything.

Now then, before we consider the figurative message of the offering of First
Fruits we need to consider God’s specific time table.

The Timetable
As we move further along in Joshua and further along in the Covenant, we will be
looking at months, days and years. It is important to look at months, days and years
because God has a very specific timetable. And He lays it out in a certain way because
it is prophetic and figurative so He can express Who He is.
God is not concerned with dates ~ His works are according to His day of weeks
and months and years. Man has his days of the week and God has His day of weeks.
God’s day of weeks are the result of the laws of the universe, often referred to as
the laws of nature. God begins His day of weeks with day one. Then proceeding in
numerical order, day two, day three, day four, day five, day six and then the Sabbath
rest, day seven. Does that remind you of Genesis chapter one?

There is a reason God “names” His day of weeks by number. The prearranged
order of the numerology is significant because of the figurative expression of that which
God is doing. When we understand the language of numerology, we understand: Day 1
~ a True Beginning; Day 2 ~ the number of witness; Day 3 ~ the resurrection of Seed;
Day 4 ~ four corners of the earth; Day 5 ~ grace; Day 6 ~ the number of man; Day 7 ~
Rest.

God uses numerology because mathematical equations cannot be changed.

Why does God use mathematical equations? Because God never changes; and man
tries to change everything.
Everything is synchronized in a prearranged order in the universe. In the
figurative language of the numerology of the ordinal of the day is the expression of what
God is doing in terms of His Eternal Covenant as revealed by that ordinal.
For example: When we read in Joshua that they go into the land on day 10 ~
what does that mean? 10 is the number for a new series. What is the new thing that is
happening? Israel is going into the covenant land. Then Israel is there for 3 days and

6
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

offers the Passover on the 14th. Then they eat the Passover and Unleavened Bread on
the 15th. God can express Himself in that figurative language of numerology.
Beginning the cycle again with the second day of weeks, day one would be the
eighth day of the month and day one of a new week. What is seen in the breakdown of
time within God’s calendar is that time is interwoven with both the solar and the lunar.
In the “day” the solar is the emphasis with its continuous flow as the day begins
and ends with dusk, the setting of the sun. The lunar is the cycle of days in couplets of
7’s = day of weeks.
Thus, God has four, day of weeks with the cycle always beginning with a new
beginning every eighth day with the completion of the cycle beginning and ending with
the new moon. As we continue into Joshua, numerology will be important in terms of the
figurative language. Not only does Israel understand what is going on in terms of the
calendar but so do the pagans.

Literal time flows seamlessly through each calendar and each pictures a phase
or facet of the revelation of the Eternal Covenant as seen in the figurative message of
the Zodiac ~ the stars with their signs.
Thus, by the design of the Creator God is a figure of Eternity: Without beginning,
without end.
Consequently, the first day of Passover ~ the day of Unleavened Bread was a
holy convocation ~ a holy day ~ a Sabbath rest, as was the seventh day of the week of
Passover. Thus, the beginning and ending of the LORD’S Passover was holy.

Again, seen within the figurative (Libra) is the plan of Eternal Life begun in
eternity past and is Holy; initiated in time with the Seed of the woman (Virgo) is Holy;
and concluded at the end of the age with the setting up of the Kingdom is Holy. The
whole plan is Holy. Holy, Holy, Holy is the plan of Eternal Life.

The Celebration of First Fruits

First Fruits was a one-day feast specifically associated with the LORD’S
Passover celebrated on the day following the Sabbath of the first day.

First Fruits is connected to the nation of Israel’s harvest in the land ~ as

previously mentioned there were no crops planted or harvested in the wilderness.

The offering of the First Fruits is the promise of the harvest of the “resurrection”
(the promise of more seed) of the seed grain buried in the earth to die. The First Fruits
were offered unto the LORD for a sweet savor offering.

Remembering from our study of the sweet savor offerings the figure of the
message of the sweet savor offerings is grace upon grace in the Covenant Son ~ here
is the Covenant Son in the stead of man in perfect holiness.

7
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

Finally, one last important detail needs to be noted. As with other figurative
pictorials sometimes it is in the elimination of a detail ~ that is the detail. Hence is the
elimination of the ordinal 16 mentioned in the LORD’S Passover. There is no Scriptural
reference with any mention of First Fruits and the 16th. This is due to the fact that there
are many harvests throughout the year in Israel not recorded in Scripture which would
require a First Fruit offering ~ not just the harvest associated with the LORD’S
Passover.

The offering of First Fruits was a “promise” concerning the harvest. Harvests
could be short or long; some lasting 2 months; and sometimes the harvests overlapped
each other such as the barley and wheat.

Everything connected to the harvest depended upon the type of crop, the
weather, the soil, the size of the field and even the husbandman ~ thereby one has
understanding of why there is the elimination of the ordinal 16.

Also, the First Fruits is figurative of the harvest of seed from every harvest. It is a
pictorial that from every age seed will be resurrected ~ from Adam until the end of the
Kingdom age.

Something else that is not mentioned in connection to the celebration of First

Fruits is the required male lamb of the 1st year as a burnt offering. Also, a burnt offering
is not a trespass offering or a sin offering; a burnt offering is a sweet savor offering.

There are three types of animals used in sacrifice in connection to the Burnt
offering ~ herd (ram, bullock), flock (sheep, goat) and birds (turtledoves and pigeons).
But if one is going to offer First Fruits at Passover, it must be a lamb of the first year.

The Burnt offering was a whole “burnt offering,” ~ the whole offering was
consumed on the altar. The burning of the whole offering figured the life offered as
complete ~ nothing held back.

Only the hide of the animal was the priest’s recompense (Leviticus 7:8). The hide
of the animal ~the skin ~ is the covering of flesh. With the First Fruit offering it was the
lamb that was to be offered as a burnt offering.

The Figurative Details of First Fruits

What is the figure? The Covenant Son was the First Fruits ~ He is the sweet
savor offering of grace upon grace ~ God the Son ~ the Son of Man ~ the First Begotten
Son of God in the stead of man in perfect holiness.

He is the promise of the harvest of the resurrection of the seed grain buried in
the earth ~ the seed bodies of flesh and bone ~ spirit life ~ Eternal life of the Sons of
God.

Seen in the offering of the male lamb of the 1st year offered as a Burnt offering
with First Fruits is the consecration of Righteousness ~ the sanctification, dedication
8
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

and blessing of God to man expressed in the Covenant Son: His life a complete
offering of God for man. What is there that we have that we have not received from
God? (1 Cor. 4:7). Can we give ourselves Eternal Life? Can we cleanse ourselves from
sin? Do we have the power of righteousness to rule over our enmity apart from God?
No!

The hide of the Burnt offering speaks figuratively of the clothing of skin, the Body
of Glory. The skin is the covering that pictures the provision of the Seed Christ. The
Body of Glory is Jesus’ recompense provided by the consecration of His
Righteousness. He has done it all.

Thus, the Burnt offering when connected to First Fruits expresses the figurative ~
it is finished! The Seed ~ the Covenant Son with His “grain” of seed for sons of God in
bodies of glory will all be offered unto the LORD for a sweet savor offering.

Contextually within the text that which has been expressed figuratively is literally
a reality for the generation under Joshua ~ it is finished! All that remains for Joshua’s
generation is to go forward and receive the land that was promised to Abraham and his
seed.

Encamped at Gilgal the reproach of Egypt has been rolled away and the LORD’S
Passover ~ the first one celebrated in over 40 years has been partaken of by the
assembly along with the first ever celebration of First Fruits. How exciting!

As previously mentioned the first Passover observed was the night of departure
from Egypt ~ a sign of deliverance from the bondage of death for the firstborn with the
possibility of redemption through the provision offered.

The second time the LORD’S Passover was celebrated was at the time of the
erection of the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle with its articles of furniture was a figure of
the 1st coming of the Covenant Son of God come clothed in a body of flesh.

Connecting the figurative pictorial of the celebration of Passover ~ the

deliverance from death for the firstborn with the possibility of redemption through the
provision offered ~ with the figurative pictorial of the erection of the Tabernacle ~ God
the Birthed Son come clothed in a body of flesh; fills in the details of how the
redemption of salvation of Eternal life is accomplished.

This Passover celebration in the book of Joshua is figurative of the 2nd coming of
the Covenant Son ~ as the Deliverer and Redeemer of the bondage of death of the
first born ~ His people Israel. He is the1st Begotten Son of God ~ the heir of the
Kingdom of God on earth. The Covenant Son is going to give them the land for an
inheritance ~ a betrothal gift.

9
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

The Passover of Joshua’s Day

Joshua 5:10-12:

“And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the
fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho. And they did eat of the old
corn of the land on the morrow after the Passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn
in the selfsame day. And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the
old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat
of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”

On the morrow after the preparation of the Passover ~ meaning the 15th, the
nation did eat ~ all in the same day:

1. The old corn of the land

2. Unleavened bread ~ cakes, with the Passover offering as they had been
instructed although not mentioned literally in the text and
3. The First Fruits
4. And the manna

The First Fruits are not eaten on the morrow after the Passover ~ they are not
eaten on the 15th the same day as the Unleavened Bread, but the following day. This is
a curious thing. Hmm, wonder if there is a figurative pictorial? Why eat the First Fruits
the same day as the unleavened bread? Seen in what is eaten that day on the 15th in
the land promised is the revelation of the accomplishment of the figurative ~ it is
finished.

Remember that the offering of the First Fruits is the promise of the harvest of
the “resurrection” of the seed grain buried in the earth to die offered unto the LORD for
a sweet savor offering.

In figure ~ Joshua’s generation of sons of Israel is a figurative pictorial of the

conclusion of the remnant nation (future) ~ the sons of Israel born in a day as complete
~ it is finished. The reproach of Egypt ~ the world with its lusts will be rolled away off
the remnant. They will be the First Fruits offered unto the LORD for a sweet savor
offering in the Kingdom.

All that will remain is for Israel to enter into the land of Canaan to receive their
inheritance for an everlasting possession. Israel will be the First Fruits of the sons of
God in the kingdom with the promise of more to come ~ more sons of God in the future.

The Inheritance of the Betrothal Gift Received

Every act of obedience the nation has done in the military account of the book of
Joshua is a figure of that which shall be ~ it is finished, for the remnant nation to come.

There are five sets of 2 of the figurative pictorial climax of “it is finished.” Five is
the ordinal that speaks of grace while the ordinal 2 is the ordinal of witness. Five times

10
YT 17 Joshua part 12 Chapter 5:10-12; Exodus 12

the finished work of the grace of the Covenant Son is witnessed in the figurative
pictorials before Israel goes in and takes Jericho.

1st set of 2:

The 12 stones in Jordan ~ the nation has died with their Savior ~ the Covenant
Son. Old things are passed away; and they as a nation have been raised to new life ~
born in a day ~ all things have become new ~ as the 12 stones at Gilgal declare.

2nd set of 2:

The Great Stones in Mount Ebal plastered with the Law of the land ~ the LORD
is the Sovereign; and the Stone Altar figuring the Covenant Son as the Stone of Israel
and the altar acceptable to the Father God.

3rd set of 2:

The Burnt offerings and Peace offerings declaring the Way of salvation. In the
offering of Himself ~ wholly unto God, the Covenant Son made Peace with God and
provided the peace of God for man.

4th set of 2:

The ceremonial Blessings and Cursings upon the two mounts is seen
figuratively in the name of the two Mounts: Life under the sun apart from the receiving of
the Seed of the Eternal life ~ is “heaps of nothing; heaps of confusion” (the name of
Mount Ebal) in the cutting off of the flesh (“the cutters off” ~ the name of Mount Gerizim)
is the blessing of the Eternal life.

5th set of 2:

The last set of 2 ~ the Circumcision and Passover is the climax of grace literally
for the generation under Joshua and figuratively of the remnant nation.

It is Finished! ~ As the stars with their signs declare of the first month (Pisces).
All that remains is the receiving of the inheritance, which will begin with the taking of the
city Jericho in chapter 6.

This concludes the lesson. If you’d like to prepare for the next lesson please read
Joshua 5:13-15 and Joshua chapter 6.
