Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine with antisecretory and sedative properties that is used to treat allergic
reactions and anxiety states.
Usage

When to use
Short-term management of anxiety, pruritus in acute and chronic urticaria and dermatosis, as an adjunct
to pre or post-operative sedation
How to use
Short-term management of anxiety
Oral:
Adults: 50-100 mg 4 times daily.
Pruritus in acute and chronic urticaria and dermatosis
Oral:
Adults: Initially, 25 mg at night increased if required up to 25 mg 3-4 times daily.
Adjunct to pre or post-operative sedation
Oral:
Adults: 50-100 mg
Children: 600 mcg/kg.
May be taken with or without food.
Risk Warnings
CNS depression, paradoxical CNS stimulation, dry mouth, thickened respiratory secretions,
constipation, blurring of vision, tachycardia, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, hypotension,
tinnitus
Precautions
Renal and hepatic impairment, narrow-angle glaucoma, epilepsy, prostatic hypertrophy, bladder neck
obstruction, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Contraindications
Porphyria, neonates, pregnancy, lactation
