Name: Summer Durham Date: Monday-Friday April 9- 13

Subject: Mathematics Topic: Fractions

Grade: 4th Length of Lesson: 5 days

The Big Idea: Students will learn about equivalent fractions and ordering fractions.

Standard: Number and Operations - Fractions

Cluster: Extend understanding of fraction equivalence and ordering

Objective:

M.4.12 - Explain why a fraction a/b is equivalent to a fraction (n × a)/(n × b) by using visual
fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though
the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate
equivalent fractions.

M.4.13 - Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators (e.g.,
by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction
such as 1/2). Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the
same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, = or <, and justify the
conclusions by using a visual fraction model.

Specific Objective: Students will be able to identify equivalent fractions and order fractions
with 80% accuracy by completing summative assessment.

Lesson Reflection:

Monday

I introduced the lesson to the students. I really emphasized the use of cross multiplication in
this lesson. This is a quick easy way for the students to determine if the fractions are equal.

Tuesday

Students completed an equivalent fraction puzzle with a partner. They really liked this activity.
They also did very well on it. They are really understanding the concept.

Wednesday

Students completed homework with little difficulty. The students also completed their practice
worksheet. Students were provided with extra support and help due to having extra time.

Thursday

Students were completing DABA testing.

Friday

Students successfully completed worksheets without any problems. Students were paired into
groups and completed group activities. This class is very large, but works well together in
groups. Students also completed Moby Max assessment.
