Course Name Electrical Machine Design
Course code EP-5442
Credit hours 4-3-3
Prerequisite(s) Electrical machines-II
3. Course Description
Aim: To impart the design procedures for the preliminary design of electrical machines.
Description:
Principles of electrical machine design, design of transformers, design of dc machines, design of
induction machines, design of synchronous machines.
4. Learning Outcomes
After the completion of the course the students will have the following attributes:
4.1 Knowledge
To understand:
 Principles of design
4.1.1  Design of Transformers

 Design of DC Machines
 Design of 3phase Alternator.
4.1.2
 Design of 3 phase Induction motors

4.2 Intellectual and practical skills

The design procedures impart knowledge to find the dimension of electrical machines and
4.2.1
students develop confidence to use computer for the design.
The laboratory works related to the course content enable students to know practically the

insulating, conducting, magnetic materials and coolant used in electrical machines. Small AC
4.2.2
machine stator winding and small transformer winding practice shall enable the student to

rewind them independently.

4.3 Attitude and behavior
4.3.1 Appreciate various design techniques for the design of AC & DC Machines.
