Activity For this activity, students will be creating a
presentation that describes the accomplishments
of four explorers: Christopher Columbus, Juan
Ponce de León, Jacques Cartier, and Christopher
Newport. The students will be using the Buncee
app to create their presentation. They will work in
pairs—each pair gets one iPad/tablet/smartphone
and will work from that device. Before starting, the
teacher will show the students an example
presentation that shows what is expected in the
presentation. The students will be required to use a
variety of elements within Buncee (text, stickers,
messages, drawings, animations, different
backgrounds, etc). This activity will allow students
to create using their own devices and recall
information taught in class.

3.3 The student will study the exploration of the
Americas by b) identifying the reasons for
exploring, the information gained, the results of
the travels, and the impact of the travels on
American Indians.
Using Edmodo, the students will create their own
Twitter newsfeed. Each student will use their own
devices and log onto our class. They will create an
up to 280 character “tweet” discussing the reasons
for exploring, information gained, and the impact
of travels on American Indians. The students will
“tweet” from the perspective of an American
Indian (either excited about European newcomers
or upset), an explorer discussed in class
(Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de León,
Jacques Cartier, and Christopher Newport), or a
common European citizen intrigued by the
exploration of the New World. Each student will be
required to comment on at least TWO different
“tweets”—they’re also encouraged to “like” a post
if the person they’re portraying would
support/accept it. Students will also be required to
come up with an @ name that clearly shows who
they’re portraying. Here is an example tweet:
