April 7 to 16, 2014

I. Introduction

As per Division Memorandum no. 27 series of 2013, the Launching and


Implementation of the 2nd Summer Reading Camp: Across All Learning Areas
held on April 7 – 16, 2014.

It is significant to provide a momentous learning experience between pupils


and teachers during summer vacation. It is relevant to have a great
assurance that low performing pupils enhance their academic potentials.

Participants were 30 pupils from Grade 3 to 6, with reading difficulties, thus in


avoiding them from serious decline in reading abilities.

Marcela Marcelo Elementary School with its 24 teachers applied the new
program in full force implementation.

Lots of engagement activities were performed vigorously by the learners with


the guide of their respective subject teachers in their grade levels. They truly
enlightened about the genuine love for reading across all learning areas.

Furthermore, this will increase pupil’s vocabulary and fluency thus serves as a
vehicle to improve reading literacy and appreciate different concepts in all
subject areas (English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino and Araling
Panlipunan) through fun-filled activities.

II. Recruitment / Tracking of Target Pupils

A. Listed down names of pupils that belong from the lower sections and have
low reading abilities.

B. Posted announcements regarding the summer camp through social media


in the internet, tarpaulin (both gates of the school), different barangays of
the school’s catchment area, community parade and leaflets-giving
containing information on who and what can a participant can benefit on
the said camp.

C. Participants during the parade were MMES GPTA officers, pupils from
different grade levels, MMES teachers and some barangay officials, the
assist the school in the dissemination of the upcoming school summer
activities.

III. Sources of Funds used for the 2nd Summer Reading Camp

A. Instructional materials were provided by the school such as pencils,


crayons, colored papers, bondpapers, manila papers, cartolina and others.
This also includes the photocopying of some activities for the pupils.

B. Cash donation of P3,000 from the school sponsors for snacks of pupils
and teachers for the 8-day summer camp.

C. Other sponsors for the 2nd Summer Reading Camp:

IV. Launching / Kick-off Rally

A. On April 7 at around 7 o’ clock in the morning, MMES teachers, parents,


and pupils with the MMES Drum and Lyre Band had a community parade
as part of the information dissemination and campaign of the DepEd’s
summer program. The participants took the route of the school’s different
catchment areas.

B. After the parade, a short program launching of the DepEd’s “2 nd Summer


Reading Camp: Across All Learning Areas”, headed by the school
principal, Ms. Eden E. Dioquino.

C. Ms. Eden E. Dioquin, school principal, emphasized on the benefits that the
pupil-participants will gain from the said summer reading camp.

D. An introduction of the 24 teacher-facilitator who will assist the principal,


Ms. Eden E. Dioquino and Over-All-Chair, Ms. Carmencita P. Centeno
was done.

E. Registration of the participants in the four grade level (Grade 3, 4, 5 and 6)


followed after the program.

F. A pretest was conducted to evaluate the present knowledge of the pupil-


participants prior to the upcoming 8-days activities.

V. Preparation of the Camp Sites / Bases

Teacher-Facilitators with the support of the Student Pupil Government (SPG)


prepared the covered court as the Camp Sites of the different Grade Levels.
Each grade levels were divided into 5 subject areas into bases. Each camp
site made the necessary preparation and arrangements conducive enough for
the upcoming activities which include tables, mats, whiteboards, chairs and
other materials needed for every activity which were prepared by the teacher-
facilitators.

VII. Actual Conduct of the 2nd Summer Reading Camp

April 8 to April 15, pupil-participants met with their respective teacher-


facilitators in their respective grade level for the 2 nd Summer Reading Camp.

The day started with warm up exercises facilitated by the different grade level
assigned for the day. It was followed by a breakfast, prepared by our H.E.
Teachers and grade level coordinators. A film viewing started the activities of
the pupil-participants. Afterwards, the pupil-participants proceed to their
respective camp (respective grade level) and grouped into different bases
(subject areas).

Teacher-facilitators conducted varied activities that would enhance the


different skills of the pupil-participants in different subject areas. (Please refer
to Appendix B)

After the first three (3) bases, the pupil-participants had a break and were
provided with some snacks. Continuation of the last two (2) bases followed
after their snacks.

Group reporting of the pupil-participants and teacher-facilitators’ evaluation


wrapped up the day’s activities.

VIII. Culminating Activity / Closing

On April 16, a Culminating activity to close the 2nd Summer Reading Camp
was carried out.

It started with a warm up exercise followed by a breakfast of the pupil-


participants and teacher-facilitators.

A video presentation of Day 1 to Day 7 which was prepared by Ms. Anne M.


Tapia, School ICT Coordinator, was presented during the plenary.

Afterwards, the closing program followed. Each grade level gave some
special awards to the outstanding pupil-participants during the 8-day summer
reading camp.

Certificate of participation was awarded to the pupil-participants by Ms. Eden


E. Dioquino with the assistance of the school’s Master Teachers, Ms.
Carmencita P. Centeno, MT II, Ms. Marlyn L. Cañizares, MT II, Mr. Mark
Anthony R. Cua, RGC, MT II, and Mrs. Melissa S. Opeña, MT I.

Ms. Kristine M. Marcelo and Ms. Bhambi Love Rivera Z. Rivera, were the
master of ceremonies for the closing program.

All the pupil-participants and the teacher-facilitators left the camp with a big
smile on their faces because the 2 nd Summer Reading Camp 2014 was a
memorable experience and a big success!

1. GRADE 3

a. Day 2

1. Science The pupil-participants were given pencils, crayons and some


bond papers. They were tasked to draw, to color and to label
the different parts of a tree.

2. English The pupil-participants were given some art materials and were
asked to draw the characters (the boy and the tree) of the film
they have watched. They were also asked to color them.
