TITLE OF THE PROJECT: INVESTIGATION OF ELECTRICITY MONITORING &

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
2. DURATION: SIX MONTHS
3. TOTAL BUDGET: Rs 1,20,000/-
4. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROPOSAL :
 To remote monitor electricity supply
 To assist power quality improvement on the basis of analysis
 To design a data-logging module for the desired officials
 To design an android- app for easy interaction
 To issue automatic notification based on electricity analysis
 To provide industry with the cheapest system that aids in providing a more
reliable & efficient distribution of electricity
 To assist formation of online electricity billing and recharge system

5. SUMMARY OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT:

Today energy is the most important basis for development of any country.
Generation, transmission, distribution, and usage of energy are to be optimized for
the proper conservation of energy. Electrical energy is generated from different
founts like hydro, thermal, nuclear etc. India has ample sources to produce electrical
energy. Presently the long-time outage and quality of electricity in distribution
system is a very serious problem. Also accidents are not uncommon in electrical
transmission systems. Thus the objective of this research is to provide industry with
the cheapest system that aids in providing a more reliable & efficient distribution of
electricity.
We aim to sample the voltage and current waveforms for household/individual
industries as well as at distribution level at a rate more than 25Kb/sec. Further the
data will be passed on to the central processing centre with a primary
communication system and will be backed up by secondary communication system.
The data will be processed and analysed through algorithms framed in MATLAB &
SIMULINK to obtain the final results i.e. Power Consumed, Energy, Power Factor,
THD, etc. which give the insight to quality and reliability of electricity supplied. All
this data raw or processed will anytime be available online through various
platforms for real time monitoring of the system. Based on this data we also propose
a system to enhance the quality of electricity by harmonic filtering and power factor
improvement through techniques already present in the market.
India presently secures IST position in maximum electricity theft and losses, which
accounts for 23% of total generation accounting a loss of 16.2 Billion Dollars per year.
Thus little investment in this setup will help utility to save losses & theft worth
billions of rupees.

6. EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
o Matlab-based program for remote monitoring and data acquisition
o Wireless and real-time monitoring of electricity distribution system
o Web-application with a data-logging module to online monitor the system
o Android- app for easy monitoring and interaction
o Low cost device for reliable & efficient distribution of electricity

7. WORK PLAN:
 Selection of current and voltage sensor, input conditioning system,
development boards and wireless communication module
 Integrate the above elements to send sampled data of electricity distribution
system for further analysis
 Implementation of matlab-program to retrieve the above data for system
analysis and store in database as required
 Design of web-application and android-app for front-end selective
monitoring of electricity distribution system
 Testing of above system under different conditions and calibration
