Research is not just empty learning. It is


not just idle discovery, but presumed as
something that leads to welfare of the society
of human being. The cultural issues related to
the daily life of Indian should be essentially
made the subject of intense research. The
inherent G¢ta in Mah¡bh¡rata is such a subject
which provides life related philosophy. G¢ta is
learnt and appreciated not only by the Indian
scholars, but foreign as well. G¢ta is panacea
that Lord K¤À¸a gives the lethargic Arjuna on
the battle field.

G¢ta is applicable and motivating to not
only the Arjunas of the world, but also for all
the ordinary people who get defeated in the
battle of life from time to time. ¿ankar¡c¡rya
has mentioned in his G¢ta Bh¡Àya. ""+VÉÖÇxÉÆ
ÊxÉʨÉkÉÒEÞòiªÉ ¦ÉMÉ´ÉÉxÉɽþ
±ÉÉäEòºÉÆOɽþhÉÉlÉǨÉÂ'' S¡nkhyayoga is
the 2nd chapter among 18 chapters of G¢ta. This
chapter deals with ¡tmatatwa (the philosophy of
eternal self revealed in the individual self).
S¡nkhya means well renowned.""ºÉ¨ªÉEÂò
JªÉɪÉiÉä <ÊiÉ ºÉÉÆJªÉ&'' -
Lord K¤À¸a begins his advice with a view to
free Arjuna from his attachments ridden belief
that He causes the death of his relatives. Lord
K¤À¸a comprehends that the advice is fit to
quench the mental block of Arjuna. As men are
mortal, why worry about death at all (as all are
destined to die). Wise men worry about neither
the living nor the dead. Death is just a
transformation in the human life. No one is

particularly worried when life changes into its
different phases like childhood, youth and
adulthood. Death is just the soul's development
into the next phase and hence sorrow is
irrelevant. When nature changes into various
seasons, like the spring, summer, autumn and
winter, no one is sad, though it may create
resultant inconveniences and problems. Man looks
at this as a normal necessary evil without
complaining. Death similarly is a season change
in a human life and we must develop the mental
strength to keep away from the sorrow caused by
death and look at life as eternal.

Then He discusses `¡tmaswar£pa‫ڊ‬. ¡tma is


eternal and deathless. It is only body that
dies. ""¶ÉÒªÉÇiÉä <ÊiÉ ¶É®úÒ®ú&'' ¡tma
receives various bodies just as we change
clothes. We can neither destroy, hurt, burn,
decay nor dry the ¡tma as it is eternal and
immortal.

After describing the ¡tmaswar£pa like this,
Lord says that even then the thought of eternal
soul (¡tma) need not cause worry as life and
death are inevitable. Those born are destined to
die. We are just able to be surprised about this
eternal fact of human life, without complaining,
without worrying.

As life is eternal and, birth and inevitable
death are two parts of it, what a human being
can do is to do your duty without fail. As
Arjuna is a kÀatriya, his duty to himself, and
to God is to fight the war and not bother about
the consequences. If he withdraws from this
appointed mission, he will inherit notoriety. To
a proud man, notoriety is worse than death.

and if people go on guessing the supposed causes
of Arjuna's withdrawal it will still be worse as
the reason will be of their own making, without
any basis. To suffer ignominy is unbearable.
Lord is trying to motivate Arjuna by awakening
all his personal weakness and suggesting
possible solutions. It is noblest to
effectively control the sense, the heart and the
mind and to have balanced disposition and with
renewed vigour getting involved in Karmayoga
doing one‫ڊ‬s duty to self and God.
If the mind is not fixed, it will lose its
concentration and go on its dissipated journey
making the individual incapable of doing
anything fruitfully. Unfixed mind is not capable
of intense application.

The mind diversified into various subjects,


develops attachment everywhere and this
attachment generates desires, which in turn
develops wishes and expectations and this leads
to the destruction of concentration. This in
turn leads to loss of wisdom. The loss of wisdom
is the loss of everything.

Detached minds are capable of deep
concentration and steady disposition, with fixed
aim well thought out. Peace and harmony exist in
this harmony. Those in disharmony are not happy
and peaceful. Sankhyayoga uncover the secret key
to this great philosophy ¡tmatattwa. It is
applicable and inevitable in anyone's life. When
weakness conquers you and disturbance assails
you, the eternal refuge is forever in G¢ta.
Staunch practice and application of this Tattwa
in life will make one's life meaningful and
peaceful.
Researchers should unearth such priceless
gems from mines of our great Indian philosophy
and make it researchable and accessible for the
use and benefit of mankind. Let our researches
lead to this wisdom.
