FUNDAMENTACIÓN
El idioma Inglés en la actualidad es una herramienta fundamental para los profesionales que se
desempeñan en empresas industriales y comerciales, en posiciones de nivel intermedio, de apoyo
y/o asistencia a la alta gerencia que requiere de un profesional medio técnicamente calificado en
el manejo del Inglés. Dentro de esta formación integral, la asignatura Inglés I tiene como
propósito fundamental repasar y consolidar el vocabulario básico y las estructuras gramaticales
adquiridas en los niveles de educación anterior.

OBJETIVO TERMINAL
La asignatura Inglés I está dirigida a suministrar al estudiante que cursa la Carrera de Idiomas,
mención Inglés los conocimientos, habilidades y destrezas que le permitan:
 Practicar, en forma correcta, las cuatro destrezas del Idioma: Lectura, Redacción, Expresión
Oral y Comprensión Auditiva.

 SINOPSIS DE CONTENIDO

Verb To Be. Singular and plural noun phrases. Simple present tense with verbs other than be.
Question with: Do, Does, Did. Single-Word adverbs of frecuency; Always, Usually, Often.
Adverbials of place and time. Wh-Questions: Whose, Who, What, Where, When, Whom. Using
adjective and nouns to modify nouns. Be + going to. Negative statements. Some and any. The
articles: The, a, an. Quantify expressions. Demonstratives. Possessives requests. The use of other
and another. Verb and indirect object. Past tense forms of irregular verbs. Adverbs of manner.
Noun Phrase + Modifier. Modal auxiliaries. Possessive pronouns. Expressions of comparison.
Embedded statements and Wh-clauses. Passive sentences. Subordinators. Conditional sentences.
Tag-questions. Clauses.

ENGLISH I

PURPOSE
The purpose of this class is to introduce students to the English language through practice in all
four hours of language use: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

ACTIVITIES
2 hour lecture, 2 hour lab and 2 hour discussion per week. Practice, reading, listening and writing.
In-class activities, Journal, lab work (multimedia), oral presentations, homework, exams, final
exam.

MATERIALS
Primary Textbook and Workbook: Focus on Grammar Intermediate Course (FOGIC).
Secondary Materials: Focus on Grammar Basic Course (FOGGBC), magazine and newspaper
articles, multimedia aids.
