global surface weather phenomena. Particular emphasis is placed upon the interrelationships between weather
and climate and upon meteorological forecasting techniques. Term hours: 54 lecture. (UC/CSU, CSU GE, IGETC, C-
ID: GEOG 130)

Type of DE Course:
This second 8-week short-term class meets entirely online. In this fully-online course, students will engage with the
professor and each other at a distance for the duration of the semester. Students will utilize the Canvas course
management system (CMS) to access readings and assignments, to correspond and interact with their fellow

Instructor’s Course Description:

Students will be introduced to weather & climate through a topical survey of physical atmospheric processes,
including the atmospheric effects of solar energy, atmospheric moisture, extreme weather, climate patterns, and
human effects on the atmosphere and climate.

Geography is more than just maps and globes. It is a lens through which to better understand phenomena that
exist on Earth. Geography informs our critical analysis with a spatial perspective. As such, geography helps us
understand not only “where,” but “why there?”

Student Learning Outcomes:

1. Students will be able to interpret weather maps with 70% accuracy.
2. Students will identify the geographic variables associated with tropical cyclone formation with 70%
accuracy.
3. Students will be able to classify the forms of precipitation with 70% accuracy.
4. Students will distinguish the various layers of the atmosphere by temperature and gaseous content with
70% accuracy.
