COMPOSITE MATERIALS
Definition: A composite material is one which is made by combining two distinct materials, which retain
their properties to create a new material which has properties that cannot be achieved by any of the
components acting alone.

Phases of a composite: A composite is said to have two phases, matrix and reinforcement. The matrix is
the base material that gives the composite material shape and surface finish while the reinforcement
gives the composite material extra strength.
