MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Aaron Newton

PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an “A” provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to
an audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.

Grade Level: 6th - 8th

Content Area: any

Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)

Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed:

Brief Description of Learning Experience: Students will create an audio file by using audacity. The teacher will be there
to help facilitate and teach the students how to use audacity, and let the students be creative between the guidelines given.
The project will be introduced talking about multi-media tools, specifically audio. It should take the students about a week
to finish the project, a few days recording and a few days editing.
People and other students that are learning about the topic can use what the students have created in order to enhance a
lesson, or have a creative way to share knowledge. The audience varies based on what class, grade level, and subject area
they are focusing on. Students will be assessed by the effort they put into creating the project, if it is relevant to the
topic/content, and the efficient use of multimedia tools.

Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: Loti Level 4. It allows students to create and apply their knowledge in
creating a project through audacity.

Importance of technology: This project could only be created if it was a live performance. The technology is beneficial in
this case to record, and be able to edit the project after it has been recorded. You could not make changes or add effects to
a live performance without the proper technology.

Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (whether in part or whole),
include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you “borrowed” from others.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some issues include finding things to create a project that are not appropriate to
use for a school project. Another issue is that creating accounts and downloading files can have you share information
about yourself to the world. These can be avoided by using things that are free for the public to use (creative commons),
and being able to site your sources accordingly.
