Assessment Summary

Entry-Level Assessment
Students will be required to create a list of skills in the game of soccer and rules
involved in the game of soccer. This will allow me to identify the level of understanding
of my students and the foundational understanding of the game of soccer. This will later
be used to continue a discussion on these lists in more detail.

Formative Assessment
Students will first be involved a group discussion to discuss the rules and skills they
listed previously and begin to explore the critical elements of those skills and how the
rules apply to the game of soccer. This exploration will provoke conversation about
each of the skills/rules and allow students to begin to interact with one another prior to
actively participating in the sport.
Students will then create a set of flashcards on the basic rules of the game. This will
help students remember the basic rules of the game so all students understand how the
game works prior to participating. As the students participate in the soccer unit these
rules of the game will be easily understood by all students.
Next, students will take a 10-question quiz specifically on the different critical elements
involved in each of the 5 skills discussed in class (pass, shoot, dribble, throw-in, goalie
punt). This quiz will reinforce the students understanding of the details of each skill,
which will then help transfer the critical elements into the specific movements of each
skill.
Last, students will complete a comparison chart in regards to the differences between
active participation versus no participation in sport. With this they will analyze how this
affects physical fitness and lifetime physical activity. Students will be able to explain
how active participation or no participation in sport will affect current fitness and future
activity. This assessment will take place towards the end of the whole unit.
Summative Assessment
Students will be scored on their performance of the specified critical elements in the
rubric per skill (pass, shoot, dribble, throw-in, goalie punt). Based on the rubric students
can earn 1 point per critical element per skill, they can earn up to a max of 5 points, with
a total of 25 points.

Once students are able to successfully demonstrated the specified critical elements,
they will group together and work together on a group project to showcase a specific
skill to another group in the form of an activity, drill, or game while explaining the
specified critical elements of the skills. They can be as creative as possible as long as it
falls within the laws of the game.
