Focusing on ICT Infrastructure and the Pipe System

 Massive amounts of data require bigger,

wider, and faster pipes to support
continuous data growth. This presents
strategic opportunities for Huawei.
 Huawei focuses on products, services,
and solutions for transmitting, storing,
and distributing information. We
concentrate on the pipe strategy without
investing in content or applications.
 The pipe strategy is Huawei's core
strategy and key area of focus. Huawei
will invest and develop based on the pipe
system to achieve effective growth and
long-term returns.

Huawei 5G Service Cube – 1000 times more everything

 1000 x LTE area capacity -> 1 Tbps / km2

 10 lower latency -> 1 ms

5G

How to bring 5G capacity at low cost for urban outdoor?

Possible solution ingredients:

1. Combine with streetlighting
(power)
2. Very dense RAN with all
units equipped with antenna
array
3. Wireless backhaul
4. Graceful degradation (OPEX
minimization)
5G

How to bring living room to a car?

How to bring low latency
for tactile Internet and high
rate for HD 3D graphics
to a car moving at 120
km/h on a highway?

Or to cars in dense urban?

5G
From hot-spot small cell to dense RAN

 Mobile users switch between  High-rate low-latency users stay

small cell and macro in dense RAN
 QoS varies, latency problems  Homogenous QoS, low latency,
max capacity

5G
Dense 5G makes super-accurate
low-power positioning a low-hanging fruit

 Ultra-dense access network

 User node can ”see”several access nodes simultaneously within a range less than
20/100 meters (indoor/outdoor)
 Wide bandwidth (likely 200 MHz or more)
 High accuracy of time-of-arrival estimation
 Access nodes equipped with antenna arrays
 Angle-of-arrival information can improve the positioning accuracy
 User node position is needed for predictive mobility and
RRM in any case (probably less accurate)
 ”Terrestrial GPS”
5G
Dense 5G can bring urban
and indoor positioning to a new level

 High-accuracy (<0.1 m *) positioning

 Works indoors
 Consumes at most a few mW of device power (100 times
less than GPS): continuous operation without any effect on
mobile device battery life
 Would allow also device attitude determination
 Would also work for wearable devices and low-power
sensors
 *) An estimate based on simulations done with a possible WLAN positioning system
at 20 MHz bandwidth

for outdoor deployment. Scell on facade

 1000x area capacity w.r.t. LTE-A (up to 1 Tbps/km2)

 1 ms RAN latency
 No significant increase in CAPEX/OPEX,
 Sufficient QoS/QoE at vehicular speeds in cities and highways,
 UE battery lasts at least a day in normal 5G usage
 Develop and evaluate predictive methods for UE “handover” and radio link/radio
resource management that permit movement at vehicular speeds without service
interruption and acceptable control plane loading/UE power consumption.
 Existing LTE handover mechanisms are not sufficient at vehicular speeds with
dense deployments.
 Develop and verify a network architecture and related practical solutions in which
a wireless meshed backhaul is employed to reach points where fibre backhaul is
not available or is too expensive.
 Produce a high number of relevant new 5G patents
