PASADENA COVENANT CHURCH

June 2010

By Kreig Gammelgard, Transitional Support Pastor & Tim Dally, Lead Pastor

Pastor Tim Dally and Elaine have arrived in Pasadena!
Read it again, folks.  This is not a figment of your imagination nor a typo…, but truth.  The long and
prayerful search for a new lead pastor is complete, and an exciting new ministry adventure lies before you.
God is so good!

As a brief reminder, let me re‐introduce you to God’s man for this season in the life of Pasadena Covenant:

Tim is ordained in the Christian Church and has served for 30 years as a youth pastor, church planter,
executive pastor, transition pastor and lead pastor at churches of various sizes and ages.  Tim was
introduced to the Evangelical Covenant Church by Dr. David Nystrom, a former guest speaker at
Pasadena Covenant Church, and Vice President of Academic affairs at William Jessup University near
Sacramento, where they met when Tim was an  adjunct professor. Tim will transfer his ordination to the
Covenant in the near future while settling into his new “tribe”.  With a variety of educational degrees in
Theology, Philosophy, Spiritual Formation and Religion and Society, including a D.Min in Practical
Theology in the Postmodern Context; plus his plethora of experience in the church and his passion for
people. This is a wonderful fit for leading Pasadena Covenant Church for many years to come.

Tim would readily admit that Elaine, his wife of 30 years, is the better half.  They have 4 grown children,
two who live in the LA area, and Tim and Elaine will soon be grandparents!

Tim has a love for sports, both watching and playing; a love for art, both drawing and painting; and a love
for collecting things and trying new things.  If you don’t find him in the office, you have a good change of
finding him at the gym, a bookstore, a coffee shop, or on a hike.

To get in touch with Tim you can reach him at tdally@pasadenacovenant.com or (626) 795‐9381 ext. 103.

From my perspective, I am leaving Pasadena Covenant Church in very capable hands.  Enjoy one another.
Love one another.  Follow and serve God together.  I’ll look forward to staying in touch with you all and
now a word from Tim:

I have an assignment to write something for a space in the ‘newsletter.’  The first thing that comes
to mind is a statement: We listened intently, after saying something about “wherever,” and we are in
Pasadena.  This is the place we felt called to be – this is the “wherever” part beginning to happen.  Who
would have imagined this?

We have spent a little over 30 years listening and being “wherever” we needed to be.  It has often
been surprising, but not a surprise, about the places and things that needed to be done.  The rear
view mirror has always made a little more sense than looking out the windshield and following
that voice.  That place in the book of Hebrews where it describes Abraham and Sarah as going into
the future with a God they barely knew has forever meant something to me.  I have always desired
a trusting faith like Abe that has more to do with following, seeking proximity to God and his
leadership, rather than waiting for a lot of clarity.

This Sunday I will be installed as the Lead Pastor of Pasadena Covenant Church.  I know it will be
an important moment for me on the stage.  As I spend time on my knees I will be remembering
servanthood, passion, commitment, giftedness, integrity, and the God I answer to.  When I respond
to the challenges of pastoring it will undoubtedly become a ‘marker’ in my life.  The occasion will
have meaning and continue to gain new meaning through the years as I start by saying – “By the
grace of God I will…I do.”  The “installation” ceremony will cause me to remember who I am and I
am wondering what that will mean here in this place, at this time, being who I am. Then about the
time everyone is getting really bored with the whole affair my heart will be racing in the
confirmation trying to imagine what is next at a place with such a legacy.

In the Bible, the leadership of God led people into promises, suffering, celebration, relationships,
the wilderness, exile, the waters of baptism, prayer, all kinds of victories and brand new places.
We don’t always know where we are going with clarity, or what is next, but we listened and this is
the place we felt called to be.  I don’t know how many things Sunday’s “installation” can mean, but
for my self and my family it is about following and being called to be here.  We listened, and after
saying something about “wherever,” we ended up in Pasadena.
