PROCEDURE
Introduction
As they come in from changing: Rally with a partner
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour:
Etiquette!
Say: I have talked to you all multiple times about walking on other people’s courts
while they’re playing a game. It does not matter if they are just rallying or playing
an actual game, you MUST stay off the courts! It is a safety issue so there are NO
exceptions to this.
Ask: What should we make the consequence for stepping on other people’s
courts? Push ups? Burpees?
Low-Management Time: They will already have their rackets and birdies from
rallying
Transition to Body: Bring everyone in for the warm up drill.

Body
Learning Activity #1: Warm Up:
Continuous Badminton:
Say: The goal of the game is to get AS MANY rally points as you can between you
and your partners. (Have diagram on the whiteboard of how the rotation works)
There will be two people ON the court at all times, the two on the sides may NOT
enter the court until the person in front of them has hit the birdie (Safety).
We are going to see what team can get the highest number of rallies in two
minutes. You will have one practice round and one real competitive round to
determine the winner.

Assessment/Differentiation: groups of 5 (if odd numbers) is ok.

Key Questions: What are important things to remember while playing this game?
How can you help your teammates out to continue the rally? (ex. Use of clear
shots to provide lots of time for the next person to get behind the birdie.)

Learning Activity #2: Training Camp for Olympic Tournament

Say: Today is our last day of badminton before the Olympic tournament starts on
Monday. SO, today we will be doing a round robin type tournament (either singles
or doubles depending on where you have already told me you want to play.) I will
be coming around and making sure you are all using the correct grip, have the
proper footwork, and know the rules/boundaries to ensure that you will do your
very best in the tournament.
Focus: Etiquette and footwork/use of court (f/b or s/s)
Do: walk around and spend a good chunk of time (2 minutes ish) at each court
and provide meaningful feedback to the students.

Key Questions: what do you feel like you need to work on the most? What do you
think is the most important thing to remember when playing doubles? How can
you demonstrate good etiquette and sportsmanship during this training camp?

Closure
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning:
Let them know that Monday I will be assessing their etiquette and knowledge of
the rules again during the tournament (assess in a more competitive atmosphere)
Ask: how do you think you have improved throughout these 3 weeks of
badminton? (fist to 5 – 5 being the best) What is one thing you have learnt or
think you have improved on during the 3 weeks?
Transition to Next Lesson: Tomorrow we are going to be playing some games!
