College Republican Federation of Alabama Judicial Board, on behalf of

the College Republican Federation of Alabama Executive Board

To the University of Alabama College Republican Chapter, as chartered under the

College Republican Federation of Alabama. After reviewing the complaint submitted by
members of your organization at a meeting of the College Republican Federation of Alabama
Judicial Board on January 14th, 2018; the CRFA Judicial Board has ruled that the elections held
by the University of Alabama College Republican chapter on November 28th, 2017 are
insufficient to serve as official and recognized by the College Republican Federation of Alabama
as democratic and fair.

The CRFA Judicial Board has ruled that another election must be held prior to the last
day of February 2018. New nominations will be taken from the floor on the date of the election
and/or before as required by the UACR Constitution. However, in fairness, only UACR Members
that were/are dues paying members as of the last election on November 28th, 2017 may be
nominated. No additional members that have joined the organization since the close of
business on this date may vote or be nominated for office.

The details elected to be shared that led to this decision were as follows;

 Reasonable confusion about which bylaws were current, along with multiple
copies being available to the members and public with conflicting views caused
by a past Chairman of the chapter.
 The issue confirmed by the UACR Chairman that a majority of the emails sent to
notify members that nominations were to be taken were blocked by a technical
glitch caused by the University of Alabama’s mail server system, which resulted
in many members not receiving the notification.
 The clause that nominations be accepted from the floor listed in UACR
Constitution Article 5 Section B was not followed and nominations were not
accepted from the floor at the time of the election, including a UACR member
that was not a member of SFAF.
 The issue that all members that were disqualified from running for office were
accepted as dues paid members and their nominations accepted from the floor
without notice given otherwise until the day prior to the election creating a
material change in the terms of the election by making it uncontested.

The CRFA Judicial Board has weighed heavily this decision and decided that the “rival
organization clause” in the UACR Chapter Bylaws does not necessarily in its intent or principle
conflict with the platform of the Republican Party and/or CRFA State Bylaws, however in its
current form it cannot be enforced. This clause must be accompanied with a due process that
must be applied to each member that is excluded from running for office. The clause cannot
simply be enforced without due process for each individual targeted and cannot be allowed to
stand without individuals it is being applied to having the ability to defend themselves before
an impartial/unbiased panel.

The College Republican Federation of Alabama’s Judicial Board has chosen to allow
democracy to settle the matter. We believe that due process should be afforded to everyone
and those members who may have views outside of our own are still to be accepted and
democracy be allowed to prevail at the end of the day. The board does not reject the notion
that some members that were disqualified may very well be disqualified again from running for
office within the UACR based on positions they hold that are in opposition to those of the
Republican Party; however these individuals must be afforded a uniform and individual due
process before this can occur.

The board wants to make clear that this particular situation is no single individual’s sole
fault nor is any one person to blame, but due to a myriad of circumstances, many outside of the
reach of those involved, along with the passions of those all fighting on and for the Republican
front, albeit from different positions, as is the nature of the beast of politics resulted in a
situation that needs some correction. The CRFA Judicial Board believes that leaving things stand
as they are results in the understandable conclusion to some that the democratic process and
integrity of the College Republicans is not at the level where it is expected to be. We sincerely
appreciate the time and cooperation of those involved.

Thank you.
