Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Circles

Teacher intern: Katelyn Weber
School: Twin Hickory Elementary School
Grade: 5th
Subject: Math
Date: March 13th

Objective/Competency/SOL
(State the observable skill that you want your students to learn.)
- 5.10 The student will identify and describe the diameter, radius, chord, and circumference of a circle
Materials
(List the materials and equipment that you will use in the lesson.)
- Colored pencils
- Markers
- Worksheet
- Paper plate
- Rulers

Set/Introduction
(Use a hook to engage the learner, and relate the learning to the learner.)
- Since I was doing the lesson the day before pi day, I asked the class how many people liked pie. Then I
said that in honor of pi day being tomorrow, we were going to review circles. (since the equations for
circles have the pi sign in them)

Process/Instructional Activities
(State step by step what the learner will do to master the objective.)
- I started out with my hook about pi day on my powerpoint.
- After that I went through the powerpoint having the kids review different parts of the circle, and the
equations for circles too.
- During my presentation I had them answer questions for me such as giving the definitions of certain
parts of the circle and I also had some kids come up and draw the different parts.
- After I had finished going through my powerpoint I put on a brainpop video that was about circles for
them to watch.
- Then put up the directions to my activity that they were going to complete on the front board while I
went around and passed out the supplies.
- I explained the directions and then I walked around helping the kids if they needed help with the
activity.
- I had given them a worksheet with some parts of the circle to label, some definitions to complete, and
some math problems to solve on the back. Along with that I had them label parts of the circle on a paper
plate and had them decorate it however they wanted to.
- After they were all done I had them come turn in their worksheet and their plate to me, and then Ms.
Culver had me grade them.

Questioning
(List at least four questions you plan to incorporate into your lesson, each on a different level of Bloom’s
Taxonomy. Label each of the questions to indicate the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy. )

Accommodations
● Provide for students with physical, social, or personal challenges (if any are known).
● Provide for at least two of the three:
Visual, auditory, kinesthetic learners (State the ones for which you planned.)
● Provide for at least two of the Multiple Intelligences. (State the ones for which you planned.)

- For math 5 kids they were just required to complete the front of the worksheet (which had only the
labeling and the definitions) and math 5-6 kids were to complete the whole worksheet (including the
math problems on the back)

Closure
(Provide a logical ending for your lesson - perhaps summarizing or talking about the use of this skill. Involve
learners in this closing.)

- I had them complete the worksheet to show their skills

Assessment
(Create a means by which you can see if the learners have met the objective. Evaluate the learners’ work.)
- The worksheet that I created was my assessment for them since I graded them at the end.

Technology Used
- Computer (brainpop and powerpoint)
