What This Package Does


----------------------
This package provides the IBM Integrated Bluetooth II software for
Windows 98 SE/2000/XP.
The IBM Integrated Bluetooth II Software enables or updates the
Bluetooth functions of the following ThinkPad computers integrated
with IBM Integrated Bluetooth with 56K Modem or IBM Integrated Bluetooth
III with 56K Modem.

This release supports the following systems' Bluetooth models:

- ThinkPad R40
- ThinkPad R50(*1), R50p(*1)
- ThinkPad R51 (Machine Type 1829, 1830, 1831 and 1836)(*1)(*2)
- ThinkPad T40, T40p (*1), T41, T41p (*1), T42, T42p (*1)
- ThinkPad X31
- ThinkPad X40(*1)

(Note)
*1: Only Windows 2000 and Windows XP are supported.
*2: Machine Type 2883, 2887, 2888, 2889, 2894 and 2895 of ThinkPad
R51 family are not supported.

To determine if you should update the Bluetooth software, refer to the


"Summary of Changes" section.

To update the Bluetooth software, refer to the "Installation

Determining which version is installed


--------------------------------------
NOTE:
- If any previous or current IBM Integrated Bluetooth II Software is
already installed on your ThinkPad, uninstall the software in
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel before installation.

1. Open My Bluetooth Places.


2. Select Help, then select About My Bluetooth Places.
3. The first line of pop-up window shows the version of the software.

My Bluetooth Places 1.4.3 Build 4 SP 0

The driver version of Bluetooth device is 1.4.3.4

Installation Instructions
-------------------------
If any previous or current IBM Integrated Bluetooth II Software is
already installed on your ThinkPad, uninstall the software in
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel before installation.

Uninstallation instructions
1. On Windows XP, Click Start , click Control Panel, then click Add or
Remove Programs.
OR
On Windows 2000/98, Click Start, click Settings, then click Control
Panel, then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
2. Select IBM Integrated Bluetooth II Software and click Remove
button.
3. In the pop-up message Are you sure you want to remove IBM
Integrated Bluetooth II Software from your computer?, click Yes
button.
4. Uninstallation will start.
5. If following message appears, turn off Bluetooth power and click
OK button.
Please turn off or remove your Bluetooth device before continuing
with the un-installation.
6. When a pop-up window appears that request the system restart, click
OK button to restart the system.

Installation instructions

NOTES:
-Do not turn on the Bluetooth power before you complete
the Bluetooth software installation.
-During the installation, please do not touch the keyboard, the
trackpoint, and the mouse.
-ThinkPad Software Installer provides install/(uninstall)
wizard for this package. Before using the ThinkPad Software
Installer, you have to uninstall the previous or current
software using Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel or using
ThinkPad Software Installer.
-On the Windows XP Preload environment, the Microsoft Bluetooth
software is installed. You can install and use IBM Integrated
Bluetooth II Software, but you can use only one of them at a
time.

1. Start Windows, and for Windows 2000/XP logon with administrative


privledges.
2. Extract this package to the hard drive.
3. Click start, then click Run. In the Open field, type:
c:\DRIVERS\WIN\BDCACT\SETUP.EXE and click OK to install the Bluetooth
software. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify
that location instead.
4. In Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for IBM Integrated
Bluetooth II Software window, Click the Next button.
5. In the License Agreement window, read the Licence Agreement
carefully, select I accept the term in the licence agreement then
click Next> button.
6. In the Destination Folder window, just click the Next button.
(If you need to change the destination, click Change button,
select or enter the destination folder you like, then Click OK
button.)
7. In the Ready to Install the Program window, click Install
button.
8. When Driver Signature Notice window appears, click OK button.
9. When InstallShield Wizard Completed window appears, click Finish.
10. If you asked to restart the system, click Yes button to restart
the computer.
11. After restarting the computer, turns on the Bluetooth LED and loads
the IBM Integrated Bluetooth device driver.

On Windows XP with Microsoft Standard Bluetooth software installed,


you must perform the following steps in order to complete the
installation of the IBM Integrated Bluetooth II software.

12. Turn the Bluetooth power on.


13. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
14. Click Performance and Maintenance and then click System.
15. Click Hardware tab, then click Device Manager. button.
16. Double Click Bluetooth Radios.
17. Double Click IBM Integrated Bluetooth II or IBM Integrated
Bluetooth III.
18. Click Driver tab, then click Update Driver... button.
19. Select Install from a list or specific location then click Next
button.
20. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, then
click Next.
21. Select one without the Digital Signed icon, then click Next.
22. When a pop-up window appears, click Continue Anyway button.
23. Click Finish button to close window.

NOTE:
- Under Windows XP, if you installs IBM Integrated Bluetooth II
Software over the Microsoft Standard Bluetooth software and you
want to go back to the Microsoft Bluetooth, uninstall the IBM
Integrated Bluetooth II Software and do following steps.
1. Turn the Bluetooth power on.
2. If asked the location of a file bth_oobc.dll, point the
location C:\Windows\System32.

Unattended installation
-----------------------
This is for system administrators' use only.

1. Start Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges.


2. Extract the drivers to the hard drive.
3. Click Start, then click Run.
4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\BDCACT\setup.exe /q /n
