5-26 A closed system undergoes a process in which there is no internal energy change. During
this process, the system produces 1 400 kN m of work. Calculate the heat transfer for this process,
in kJ.
5-27 A rigid container equipped with a stirring device contains 1.5 kg of motor oil. Determine the
rate of specific energy 1.5 kg of motor oil. Determine the rate of specific energy increase when heat
is transferred to the oil a rate of 1 W, and 1.5 W of power is applied to the stirring device.
5-28 A well-insulated rigid tank contains 2 kg of a saturated liquid-vapor mixture of water at 150
kPa. Initially, three-quartes of the mass is in the liquid is in liquid phase. An electric resistor placed
in the tank is connected to a 110 V source, and a current of 8 A flows through the resistor when
the switch is turned on. Determine how long it will take to vaporized all the liquid in tank. Also, show
the process on a T- v diagram with respect to saturation lines.
5-30 Saturated water vapor at 200°C is isothermally condensed to a saturated liquid a piston-
cylinder device. Calculate the heat transfer and the work done during this process, in kJ/kg.
5-31 A rigid 10L vessel initially contains a mixture of liquid water and vapor at 100°C with 12.3
percent quality. The mixture is then heated until its temperature is 150°C. Calculate heat transfer
required for this process.
5-32 A fixed mass of saturated water vapor at 300 kPa is isothermally cooled until it is a saturated
liquid. Calculate the amount of heat rejected during this process, in kJ/kg.
5-33 Saturated water vapor in a closed system is condensed by cooling it at constant pressure to
a saturated liquid at 40 kPa. Determine the heat transferred and the work done during this process,
in kJ/kg.
