1).Recent global trend is to ban incandescent lamp gradually. Everyone agrees that CFL is the
main viable alternative to incandescent lamp .However, since the existing CFLs have following
disadvantages, There are some problems in distributing the CFLs without overcoming
the disadvantages.
- Reason 1.
Most of CFLs are manufactured in China. Their quality is very low. In terms of quality, CFL
made in China are inferior to CFLs which world major brand made 15 ~ 20 years ago.
When it comes to the above quality problem, the products of Philips and Osram has the
similar problem because these products are focusing only on cost down.
- Reason 2.
Ordinary CFLs have the power factor of 55 %, energy loss of 45 % is caused.
Without improving power factor, it is clear that the distribution of CFL in large quantity
will face difficulties. Especially power utilities should join in encouraging the use of CFL
due to the global trend of environment protection and energy saving. But they may not like
to distribute Low Power Factor CFL through incentive program for users.
2). Therefore the following should be considered for promoting and spreading
the distribution of CFL
a). High Power Factor
.
They say that CFL saves up to 80% on energy compared with
incandescent lamp. But 80% of energy saving can be secured
by power factor of over minimum 90%.
Both power utilities and Government is willing to join incentive
program for High Power Factor CFL. Lower power factor of CFL
causes more energy loss and more energy loss increases
the emission of CO2 and Hg..
3). In order to distribute the product mentioned in above 2) . we can not simply
rely on user’s decision and market function. So the enactment of new standard
and incentive program for proper product should be prepared based on
Government policy.
1). Averd’s technology is utilizing the mixed control of Pulse Width Modulation and
Pulse Frequency Modulation on Half-Bridge Circuit . This technology is the
worlds first and “US patent and Trademark Office” decided to register our
patent for the above technology in 5 months after patent application.
The main characteristic is that Control Dynamic performance is enhanced
up to 10 times compared with existing method..
2). Existing technology causes a lot of loss in controlling tube due to wide
frequency variation to control the output of ballast,
However, Averd’s new technology dose not almost cause loss .
3). For this reason, even high power factor circuit with Passive method can
maintain 1.4~1.5 of tube’s crest factor under the condition
of A/C 180 V ~ 300 V input.
4). Averd’s technology has a distinguished function in dimming control
for fluorescent lamp not only for T-8 but also for T-5.
3. We think that it is difficult for some company with simple trading function
to deal with HPF CFL. We are introducing our new product based on
our belief that your company is the most proper one in understanding
and promoting HPF CFL.

Low Power Factor High Power Factor
(15,000hours CFL)
* The above table shows that low power factor CFL causes the energy loss of 45% at power plant.
Subsidy to ordinary CFLs with short life will increase the cost of lost energy and then the global
environment will be deteriorated.

(In comparison with 20W High Power Factor CFL with 15,000 hours)
① LED is excluded in this comparison ② However, the luminous efficacy of LED is 50% of that of CFL,
power source for operating LED is low power factor and light diffuser should be installed due to LED's high
luminance. In this process, the light loss reaches about 70%. Therefore, although LED has low mercury
content, mercury emission caused by LED's low efficacy in generating power may become much higher than
that caused by high power factor CFL with life of 15,000 hrs.
Ⅲ. Conclusion
The above data shows that the use of high power factor CFL with long life is very
important for both consumers and power plant. Also this requires us to make a
