Introduction

Occupying a middle ground between childhood and adulthood, between


work and leisure, high school students have been forefront of a social
change since the end of World War II. They were among the first to use
the internet for communication, recreation and file sharing, and the
first to have regular broadband internet access. Internet use first
become widespread on universities in the 1990s and in many ways. The
internet is a direct outcome of high school based research. YAHOO!,
Napster, Facebook and many other internet tools were created by high
school students are simply internet users, as a group they can be
considered pioneers.
New developments in the technological world have made the internet
an innovative way for individuals and families to communicate. Social
media networks have created a phenomenon on the internet that has gained
popularity over the last decade. People use social media sites such as
Facebook, Tweeter and Myspace to create and sustain relations with
others. (Boyd & Ellison, 2007). These social media sites let those who
use them create personal profiles, while connecting with other users of
the sites. Users can upload photograph, post what they are doing at any
given time and send personal or public message to whomever they choose.
In this “information age”. Social media sites seem to be growing in
popularity rapidly, especially among young adults (Pempek, Yermolayeva
& Calvert, 2008).
Lenhart, Purcell, Smith and Zickuhr (20100 found that 72% of all
high school students have a social media profile with 45% of high school
students using a social media sites at least once a day. Many of these
young adults use social media networks to communicate with family,
friends and even strangers.
Statement of The Problem
This study were conducted to determine the effect of internet to
the academic performance of Grade 12 students of Dumalag Central National
High School during the school year 2017-2018.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What are the academic grades of Grade 12 students according to the
section?
2. What is the academic performance of Grade 12 students?
3. There’s a significant difference in the academic performance of
the respondents when group academic to section?

In view of the student’s problem, the following were hypothesize:


1. There is no significant difference in the academic performance of
the respondents when group according to sections.
Methodology

In order to solve the questions that we’ve been wanted to answer,


we use some methods to help us. There are parts of methods, the
participants of the study, Data gathering techniques and research design.
The participants of the study are the one involve in the problem. The
data gathering techniques is the techniques that we use to help to gather
data. And the research design to survey.

Participants of the study


The research will be conducted at Dumalag Central National High
School during the second semester of school year 2017-2018 at Poblacion,
Dumalag, Capiz.
The selected grade 12 students will took part in this study. The
student that have any issues due to social media during the school year
2017-2018 from the month of January to March 2018 that taken from the
record of their grades.
The participants will be given some questionnaires to answer some
questions that necessary to the data needed in this study. After
according to the problem of the study.

Data Gathering
The sampling design that we used is convenient sampling. We use
questionnaires in order to gather data from the respondents the following
questions can be answered by yes or no and checklist.
Research design
This study is the reason associated with the effect of social media
to the academic performance of Grade 12 students of Dumalag Central
National High School. The survey tried to analyze, describe and interpret
the status of the respondents. The research questionnaires we will
distribute to the respondents in order to achieve the main objective of
the study.

Conclusion and Recommendation

The aim of this study is to identify the effects of the internet


usage to the academic performances of grade 12 students of Dumalag
Central National High School. A qualitative approach was adopted using
a range of complementary methods. This study aims to help the teachers,
parents, and the students on how to use internet in a proper ways. To
the parents, it is crucial to them to guide their children on how to set
limitation when using internet. To the teachers this study would be
helpful in identifying how the internet can affect the academic
performances of their advisories.
