Dear Comrades,
The issues highlighted in the Convention were : (i) unprecedented price rise of all essential commodities, more
particularly of food grains, in recent times and dogged refusal of the Central Government to take any remedial
measure to mitigate the hardship of the common people, (ii) rampant violation of labour laws and Trade Union
rights by the employers, (iii) job loss, underpayment, increasing working hours and repressive working conditions,
outsourcing and contractualisation leading to job insecurity, (iv) reckless disinvestment of profit making Public
Sector Undertakings (PSUs), (v) social security of unorganised sector workers (vi) deregulation of petrol prices
and price hike of petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas, etc.
The Convention put up the following immediate demands of the people in general and of the working class in
particular: (i) Effective measures for containing the price level, universal Public Distribution (Rationing) System,
containment of speculation in commodities, (ii) appropriate measures for linking employment protection with
stimulus package, more investment in infrastructure, (iii) strict enforcement of labour laws and stringent
punishment for any violation thereof, (iv) expansion of the scope and coverage of Unorganised Sector Workers
Security Act 2008, creation of a National Fund for welfare and social security of Unorganised Sector Workers, (v)
Halt disinvestment of PSUs, revival of sick PSUs.
The SECOND NATIONAL CONVENTION OF CENTRAL TRADE UNIONS AND EMPLOYEES’ FEDERATIONS
has called upon the working class of the country to OBSERVE A ONE DAY ALL INDIA GENERAL STRIKE ON

07 SEPTEMBER 2010 to highlight the issues and press for the demands, as aforesaid. The Convention also
called upon all to be in readiness for further intensified struggle on these issues/demands, should the situation so
warrant, to make the Central Government mend its policies and attitude.
We call upon you all to popularise the issues, mobilise public opinion, and gear up the organisation to make the
