5. TROUBLESHOOTING

No Inspection Movement
● When inspection switch is turned on, the inspection indicator coded as 869 which is on the ARL-100 board must be
turned off. Also the inspection movement buttons must set the 500 and 501 coded indicators. The car connection should
be controlled if the indicators are not acts correctly.
● Be sure that 120 (Stop), 130 (Door Closed) and 140 (Door Locked) circuits are closed when inspection UP or
inspection DOWN buttons are pressed (All signals of these circuits on the controller board have to be on).
● The limit switches may stop movements. The 817 (KSR1) and 818 (KSR2) indicators can not be off at the same time.
The limit switches should be controlled if the indicators are off.

Lift Stops Before Reaching Low Speed ( For two speed systems)
● If the same trouble occurs at all floors, possibly the 142 magnetic switch is failed. During traveling with low speed
142 indicator must be on. After the lift is at floor level, the 142 magnetic switch has to switch off and stop the lift.
● If the trouble occurs at a specific floor, magnetic switches and the distance between magnets should be controlled.

Lift Hits Up
● Top limit switch circuit 818 (KSR2) should be controlled. When the lift slows down at the top floor, 818 indicator
must be turned off. If not, the magnetic switch and the magnets should be controlled. M1 and 818 switches slow down
the car at the same position. 818 limit switch must not be late to slow down car. Because it corrects the faulty counting
of M1 switch.
● The 142 magnetic switch may be failed. When the lift is at floor level, 142 indicator must be off. If not, the magnetic
switch and the magnets should be controlled.

Lift Hits Down

● Bottom limit switch circuit 817 (KSR1) should be controlled. When the lift slows down at the bottom floor, 817
indicator must be turned off. If not, the magnetic switch and the magnets should be controlled. M1 and 817 switches
slow down the car at the same position. 817 limit switch must not be late to slow down car. Because it corrects the
faulty counting of M1 switch.
● The 142 magnetic switch may be failed. When the lift is at floor level, 142 indicator must be off. If not, the magnetic
switch and the magnets should be controlled.

The Retiring Cam Does Not Work

● Check for the retiring cam relay (RLIR) indicator. While it is on and retiring cam does not work, control the 810-2001
circuit.

The Floor Selector Makes Mistakes

● Number of floors must be set correctly from menu.
● Be sure that the 817 and 818 limit switch circuits are working true.
● During the lift movement follow the M1 indicator. It must be periodically turn on and off at each floor level. See if
any false signal exists. If there is a trouble:
● The distance between magnetic switch and magnets are too close or too far.
● The magnetic switch is failure.
● The rail may be magnetized.
● There may be poor magnets.

The M1 Signal Is Switching But The Counter Does Not Work

● Unless each 817 and 818 indicators are on, the counter does not work because limit switches forces to reset position.
Remember that when the lift is moved by manually pressing onto the contactors, selector does not count correctly
because of an unknown direction data.

ARL-100
ARKEL 2007 9
ARKEL Elektrik Elektronik Ltd. Şti. www.arkel.com.tr

When Stop Button Is Pressed The Counter Shows The Top Floor
● The common of 817 and 818 limit switches has to be 100 (+24V).

Automatic Door Can Not Be Close

● The ARL-100 parameters must be correctly programmed. Check the door parameter P3.
● Disconnect K20 terminal (door open signal) from control panel. If the door starts to work, check door photocell
sensor and door pressure contact.
● The limit switch signals K19 and K16 may be missed. Bridge K16 and K19 to 100 (+24V signal common) terminal.
If the door starts to open/close correctly, check for the K19 and K16 door limit signals.

Automatic Door Can Not Be Open

● The ARL-100 parameters must be correctly programmed. Check the door parameter P3.
● Disconnect DTS terminal (door close signal) from panel. If the door starts to work, check door close button
connections.
● Be sure that 142 magnetic switch indicator is off. Remember that door never opens if the car is not at the floor level.
● Be sure that 869 inspection signal indicator is off. Remember that door never opens at inspection mode.
● The limit switch signals K19 and K16 may be missed. Bridge K16 and K19 to 100 (+24V signal common) terminal.
If the door starts to open/close correctly, check for the K19 and K16 door limit signals.

Lift Stops Operating And Starts Operating By Itself Without Any Stimulation
● Motor PTC may stop lift. If motor ventilation is not enough , PTC stops lift up to desired temperature.
● Power failures may cause this problem. Check for R,S,T phase line voltages.

When Calling Lift, It Stops At Each Level And Need To Call Again
● If lift does this for each call, the voltages may decrease. Check 100 (24V) terminal voltage while operating. Control
the capacitors (3 x 1000uf/35V) for 24V. If line voltage increase too much or neutral signal missed the transformer
output increase also. Check for the line powers and neutral signal.

● If lift does this for a specific call, that call’s latch may be failed. The latch circuit should be controlled. Check
connections for this call. Car flexible cable order is important. There must be no high voltage wire near call signals.

7. GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS

All persons performing installation and commissioning work on the ARL-100 Controller
must read these chapters and follow the regulations.
In a lift control system, for a full electrical conformity with EN-81 standards it is required
that controller (control boards), control panel and electrical connections must be proper.
ARKEL guaranties that controller and control panel are in conformity with the
standards. However external connections of control panel and other electrical connections
are under installers’ responsibility. In order to guide to installers important points for
installation will be explained below according to the EN-81 standards

7.1. INSTALLATION AND CONNECTION OF ARL-100 BOARD

The distance between ARL-100 board and surface of the control panel must be minimum 10 mm.

ARL-100 board should be tied to the control panel through the 4 holes in the corners of the board.

● You must locate ARL-100 board away from contactors as far as possible for EMC.
You must carefully clean iron pieces and conductive pieces like iron dropped into the control panel
during drilling process to place boards of ARL-100 and other components into the control panel.

Otherwise while carrying the control panel or installing it to lift system these pieces can cause disorder if
they drop over the control board or other components.
Cable connections of ARL-100 controller board must be made carefully according to scheme named

ARL-100 Electrical Diagrams.
Contactors used for the lifts working with AC motor must be suitable for AC3 class defined in Standard

of EN60947 and for power of motor. These connections must be made as illustrated on scheme.
Auxiliary contacts placed on contactors must be suitable for the Standard of EN60947 and you must

control whether auxiliary contacts work simultaneously with power contacts or not.
Extinction circuits for contact (serial resistor-capacitor or varistor) must be connected to the coils of

contactor.
When there is a leakage from safety contacts to ground, to cut off supply voltage of safety contacts,

ground fault protected automat fuse must be used as illustrated on scheme
Brake and CAM bridge connections must be made as illustrated on scheme and isolated covers must be

used.
At the time off cutting off brake coil voltage, reversed current resulted from coil is extinguished by brake
bridge diodes. In the same time, because reversed current is at high level, power contacts of KU1 and

KU2 contactors must be used for brake coil output contacts for a long and fault free working, as
illustrated on scheme.
The control panel recall contact connections must be made as illustrated on scheme. Due to this
● connections when the inspection contact on top of the car is ON, the lift cannot be moved by recall
operation buttons on the control panel.
You must make sure that auxiliary contacts of contactors connected to KRC terminal work
● simultaneously with power contacts of contactors. Otherwise contactor checking process may not work
correctly.
Control panel manufacturer must test the control panel by checking all connections after installing the

control panel.
ARL-100 board does not need maintaining periodically. The product should be returned to the
● manufacturer for control and repair if you realize that there is something wrong with board. Keep the
product away from water and any liquid. If necessary, clean the dust with low pressured air.

ARL-100
ARKEL 2007 12
ARKEL Elektrik Elektronik Ltd. Şti. www.arkel.com.tr

7.2. INSTALLATION OF CONTROL PANEL

Wiring connections of motor, car and shaft to the control panel must be made carefully as illustrated on schemes

named ARL-100 Electrical Diagrams.
3 phase main power supply must be connected to L1, L2, L3 terminals of the control panel via automat fuse

group suited on motor power; and its neutral must be connected to N terminal.
Neutral and grounding cables must be wired separately, and the control panel body must be connected to ground

line suitably.
All stopping mechanisms mentioned in Standard of EN-81 must exist in the lift and the contacts of these
mechanisms must be connected to the control panel carefully. These connections must be made suitably for

safety contact connections as illustrated on schemes. All safety contacts that will be used must be suitable for
Standard of EN60947.

ARL-100
ARKEL 2007 13
ARKEL Elektrik Elektronik Ltd. Şti. www.arkel.com.tr

7.3. GETTING STARTED

● Check whether the connections between control panel and lift system are made suitably for given schemes.
● Check whether the connections have any short-circuit by using an appropriate measuring device.
● Turn the control panel inspection contact ON.
● Turn the motor protection ON and energize the control panel.
● Check that R02 indicator on the ARL-100 board and out of service light on the hall call box are on.
Make sure that there exists supply voltage on ARL-100 board by observing indicators (5V and 100). Check that

the voltage between 100 and 1000 terminals is 20..26 VDC by using a measuring device.
Car moves only at low speed because the control panel inspection contact is ON. Check that low speed windings
of the lift motor are connected correctly by moving the car with up and down inspection buttons on the control

panel. If the car moves up while down inspection button is pressed and vice versa, change any of two ends of
U2, V2, W2 connections made from low speed windings of the lift motor to the control panel.
While the car is moving, measure the voltages between the terminals of 2001 and 810, and between the

terminals of 2000 and 840. The voltage must be 180..220 VDC.
Then by moving the car to the one of the intermediate floors, turn the inspection contact on top of the car ON. In

that case the car cannot be moved by inspection buttons on the control panel.
Move the car to the base floor. Up to the top floor place the magnets of gray coded bi-stable switches, leveling

bi-stable switches and up and down limit bi-stable switches as illustrated on schemes.
● Check whether the configuration is correct or not by tracing floor numbers on 7-segment displays on ARL-100.
● Turn the inspection contact on top of the car OFF by moving the car to one of the intermediate floors.
Turn the inspection contact on the control panel OFF. So the lift will be in normal operating mode and out of

service light on the hall call box will be OFF.
By pressing a call button of the lift, check whether the lift moves at high speed and to the right direction or not.
● If the car moves up while down contactor (KU2) is energized and vice versa, change any of two ends of U1, V1,
W1 connections made from high speed windings of the lift motor to the control panel.
Check whether the car stops at exact floor level or not by giving calls to the car in both directions at every floor.

If it is necessary, adjust magnets of leveling bi-stable switch.
